My Indy experience

Hey guys, I just wanted to share my Indy experience with all of you.

I was there friday saturday and sunday thru the rain and shine. I sat infront of turn 4 so my view was of turns 1 thru 5. I have to say television doesnt do justice to the way these motogp bikes sound. They are from another world, each manufacturer sounds difference. My fav is Ducati, sounds like some sort of screaming demon. Anyways, the rain probably made the race a little less enjoyable on tv but it was no less exciting in person. Of course with the 125 and motogp races cut short and the 250 canceled you have to be a bit disappointed, but it was still an amazing experience and i only see it growing here in Indy year after year.

The crowd and atmosphere were great, especially in the infield. There was a large european presence which i thought was great. Hopefully with better weather we can have an even bigger crowd next year.

I really enjoyed friday and saturday almost more than sunday, the riders are on the track longer and its pretty relaxing. I was also really impressed with the redbull rookies, they do some great racing.

There arent many things better than drinking busch light with friends while watching some killer racing

Welcome to the forum friend. We need more Nicky fans here (assuming you are one from your name). Also more fans who can give us their perspective on the actual on the ground scene. Hey, there is a thread in the LOUNGE titled INDY USGP. Man I would sure like to see some of your pictures and more of your thoughts on the race. Hang out and make yourself a home here. We banter alot but don't take it seriously, its all just in fun and we are all willing to read eachother's .........

i dont have an official number but the announcers did say around 100,000 on sunday.

Glad you had a great time. Post some photos if you have any.

If I could give my two cents about Indy and watching it on a broadcast, what a great track. The track layout looked dull, till I finally saw the bikes on the track..Nice!!!!

when I saw those empty tribunes my first thought was that it was a poor turn-out of the crowed. but then my dad said indy has place for 350.000 people?!?! no wonder it looked half empty

would love to see your pics! (and yours too Jumkie/Frosty

I heard the GP commentators say twice the Laguna attendance

I had fun too and thought that the track folks did as best job as they could given the atrocious weather.
Even considering how bad the weather was I considered the turnout was even pretty good.

I'll get some of my pics up in the lounge post soon.

The race was cut short and I was hoping Nicky won the race. Any way thanks for the story and do post some nice pics.

I had been planning this trip for a year and there was supposed to be anywhere from 11-12 guys riding from Knoxville Tn to Indy. The plan was to leave at 3.00am Friday morning to make it by the time the GP bikes hit the track at 9.30.I forced myself to lay down around 9.00pm Thursday night to get a few hours sleep before riding all night. At about 9.30pm my son shakes me and says i have a call.Everybody was bailing out on the ride after looking at the weather and said we would all ride up in cages.I said i had been planning this as a bike trip for a year and i will be damned if i go in a car to my first GP race.SOOOO,its now 10.00pm and im awake,i check the weather forcast and see which route might get me there with the least amount of rain.I headed out thursday night at 10.30 and had a fantastic ride up.Just enough traffic to keep you on your toes and some rain here and there until Cincinnati and then it was solid till Indy.I got to Indianapolis at 4.00am and couldnt check into my room till 3.00pm so the chick said i could hang around in the lobby.Headed to the track and was waiting for the doors to open, was the first bike there. All day Friday it rained,i just kept my rain gear on all day.Saturday it was hot and sunny which meant the dirt oval for the AMA Flat Track race would be perfect.Guy's if you have never seen flat track racing on a mile track, your missing some crazy .....These fuckers might just be crazier than road racers.I got high fives from everybody for the tickets,i ordered them the second they went on sale and they were FRONT ROW,Start Finish line.If you are a bike race fan,you owe it to yourself to check out a mile dirt oval. The Gp bikes, well i dont know how to explain it except tp say its kind of a religous experience. The sound they made on the front straight as it echoed between the face to face stands was orgasmic. The weather Sunday was dangerous for everyone,Riders, fans, whoever.Im 6'5 and way 250 lbs and was blown down once when i stood to watch some action on the back side of the track.Calling the race after 20 laps was the right thing to do.There was debris fling everwhere. After the race i got out as soon as i could because it was getting worse. The winds were so bad,my bike was being pushed, when i say pushed,i mean when a draft hit you from the side,it pushed the bike, not swerve, pushed the bike sideways.I took the Indy to Louisville Ky Route back home and it was apparent a tornado or something close had come thru. The Interstate was stopped while they cleaned up fallen trees about 60 miles south of Indy. All in all,it was a soggy miserable weekend but still had a good time and a ride i can talk about.

sell your house, wife kids, body, body parts, soul what ever you need to and go mate. weathers better at laguna tho

i doubt the photo opitunitys were as good at indi as they are in laguna, what with the weather and having to sit in a grandstand. this is where jumkie proves me wrong and post's a .... load of top pics

We just got home from Indy. This was our first MotoGP. Like everyone else here, we had a great time. I am still reeling from the whole weekend.

Not many photo ops though. I don't have the camera equipment for the great stuff. . And it was fantastic to just experience it firsthand. I still can't believe I just saw a MotoGP race in person!

A bit disappointed about the 250s though

I do have some fun pics that I shot downtown on Saturday night...if I can figure out how to post a picture, I'll visit the lounge.
