Is it just me or does this 15 minute qualifying time really suck? I'm guessing the riders hate it.

It will lead to many broken frames and fairings.....

Rossi's bike was a gonner after that big one

I was not able to watch the qualifying but from the results I have to say:

1) Jorge Lorenzo: Rock solid, Perfect, It looks like it is his weekend.

2) Dani Pedrosa: This race is the place where he has to prove this years title is between him and Jorge, If he can't get at least 20 points from Jerez than He will have problems holding Marquez back through out the whole championship points.

3) Marc Marquez: This kid has impressed everyone from the start, getting himself between Jorge and Dani in Jerez, will be impressive.

4) Cal Crutchlow: Just amazing. The more he is riding that Tech3 M1, I'm getting the feeling Rossi needs to give him the Blue M1. I like Rossi but he is holding Cal back. I always hated Rossi's return to Yamaha.

Dovi said the tires brought by Bridgestone for this race are too soft.

He added that tomorrow it will be mostly a matter of tire management.

Splitting it into two is maybe a good idea, separating the slower bikes from the faster ones; but they should allow more time, 15 minutes is way too short.

id prefer to see cal on a factory Honda, I think his ragged style  would be suited better there.

not tking anything away from him tho, he is impressive on the m1.

I bet he could ride the red thunder better than its current crop to

Well said that man

I like the new qualifying format. Not as cool as the old superpole format, but exciting. Anyway, in the old format, they only used the last 10-15 minutes to put down qualifying laps, the rest was set-up time for most.

I've got the sneaky feeling that Jorge is the only one on the latest and greatest iteration of the bike. I think Rossi and Cal are on very similar bikes.

If so.. Cal>Rossi

Yes. I think so

Crutchlow is supposedly riding last year's WC winning M1, the latest iteration of it (Valencia 2012). He's the first satellite rider since Simoncelli who seems able to threaten factory riders on a regular basis. I would think that any rider capable to be that fast not only must have a de-facto works bike, but also one that suits his talent very well. It has to be seen whether getting a 'blue' M1 would actually improve his performance much (his 'fast and furious' riding maybe would not find any concrete advantage in a slightly refined version tailored for a supersmooth rider like Jorge Lorenzo); still it would be good to check that out, no doubt.

Was not Lorenzo the same learning the trade?

Nope, Rossi and Lorenzo on identical bikes. But the bike is built around Lorenzo now, and Rossi can't ride it like Lorenzo can. Their styles are too different. Ironically, Lorenzo's style most resembles that of Max Biaggi, who is also his personal hero. Looks like Biaggi wins in the end.

Sure - but he came from riding the 2-stroke 250s from where he developed his smooth style. Cal came from Superbikes with (relatively) wobbly frames and Pirelli tires, a less advantageous pedigree to be sure.

I agree however on plus 1.30 min laps there should be a 20 min quallie.

Just enough time for two blasts on new rubber.

Texas was a prime example where the format fails as will be silverstone just because of the amount of time to put a lap in with out and in laps.
