FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix

- Moto2 class 2010 FIM World Championship announcement -

The Selection Committee comprising delegates of the FIM, Dorna and IRTA met on the 2nd October in Estoril to select the teams which will be invited to participate in 2010.

Teams comprising a total of 39 riders were accepted. Teams comprising a total of 10 riders were placed on a reserve list. A detailed list is reproduced below.

Accepted teams now have until the 2nd of November to finally confirm the names of their riders and to lodge a security deposit with IRTA. Should any of the accepted teams propose riders not acceptable to the Committee, or if the security deposit is not paid, then consideration will be given to the teams on the reserve list.

It should be noted that no team applied to participate with 250cc class machines meaning that the entire 2010 grid will be comprised of Moto2 class machines.

Yeah, apparently both teams hire personnel who are competent engineers, but the satellite leasing arrangement doesn't allow them to build prototype parts for the bikes they lease. Moto2 will give their engineers some prototyping work.

I think Moto2 and the engine leasing program are related. The satellite teams are learning how to build their own bikes under the hope that they can get engine suppliers to enter the sport. It's a pretty smart plan to return the sport to its roots while getting more manufacturers involved (rolling chassis). I am a bit worried; however, that MotoGP is exactly copying the F1 model which requires every team to build its own unique chassis.

I also think that Gresini and Tech 3 are eager to sign their own riders (who don't belong to the manufacturers) and they are probably hoping to make money in Moto2 to fund their MotoGP team.

I was hugely optimistic about Moto2 (I know the racing will be awesome), but I can see problems on the horizon. Race preparation teams like Moriwake have entered the sport, and they will be preparing bikes for several teams. How long will it be before teams stop building their own bikes, and they start leasing from engineering firms like Moriwake? How long until market demand for bikes like the Moriwake causes Moto2 costs not to be so reasonable? How long until only a few Moto2 bikes exist? How long until we have a stratified arrangement where the powerful engineering firms hand out old technology to other teams for them to run as "satellite bikes" that have little chance of winning?

These questions will need to be addressed, and contingency plans will need to be developed now. I'd like to think Dorna have already considered these possible problems.

Who am I kidding? They are salivating over the viewership ratings, they couldn't care less about the health of the new class.

i deffo want to see these teams and who they are

Lex, schizo tendencies showing? You're willing to cut DMG an acre of slack after their first year debacle, yet you're worried about Moto2 already? Wow, are seriously suggesting that DMG's prospects for success are greater than Moto2's?

DMG didn't sit around and watch the sport go to hell in a handbasket---the AMA and the OEMs were responsible for that. DMG certainly haven't improved anything, but they can't really be expected to maintain the awesome state of tune in the AMA when the manufacturers are going broke.

Dorna and the FIM have watched GP go to hell in a handbasket, and I don't suspect that their management of Moto2 is going to achieve anything either; especially since they are using Moto2 to prop up MotoGP.
