Foxtel will no longer be airing motogp live in Australia , I've been hearing the rumours, but have yet to have this confirmed......if so this is one of the greatest injustices ever to occur in Australian broadcasting, also in the world of motorcycle racing considering the contribution our small nation has made to the sport.

if this is correct, I personally will be in contact with the broadcasters in oz as I have industry ties, if anyone here can supply any info on dornas production people or commentators it would be greatly appreciated

If this is the case I will be pissed. I hate having to wait for free to air to play it so I have foxtel. If they don't play it live then besides the AMA Motocross and Supercross there is no reason for me to have it.

Hasn't ONE got the rights for Free to Air Live transmission of MGP now?

If so won't we be better off?
<

Edit: Perhaps you aught to get you head out of the rumour bin and let the TV ads hit you in the face

I'd be interested to hear/see how your "industry contacts" react to your complaint.

If they are showing it on free-to-air on ONE Foxtel are probably not allowed to show it live. This is a shame as I quite like the Foxtel studio guys.

.... off ...........one hds effort will be no doubt lackluster and if it's live at all it will only stay that way for a few rounds, then you'll be waiting until 1 in the morning for the delayed action, ten has done it before and they'll do it again, and the smaller classes will be forgotton. This is why we all have foxtel.

Anyone with helpful information would be appreciated

MotoGP: Network Ten secures live MotoGP on ONE HD from 2010
Posted: 23 Jun 2009 | Story: Press Release | Section: Breaking News | Comments: 0 | ShareThis

Dorna Sports:

Dorna Sports and Network Ten have signed an historic 5-year agreement that will see MotoGP broadcast exclusively on free-to-air television for the first time from 2010.

The agreement includes all MotoGP races and all supporting 125cc and 250cc races broadcast LIVE on Network Ten’s 24-hour sport channel, ONE, from 2010. Network Ten will simulcast LIVE the Australian MotoGP round from Philip Island as well as other MotoGP events in the Australasian time zone and those taking place in America. All other MotoGP races will be broadcast on same-day delay on TEN around 11 pm.

ONE will show full replays of all MotoGP races, all qualifying races and highlights of 125cc and 250cc races in prime time each week following the race. Extensive pre-race shows will also feature on ONE hosted by Greg Rust and Daryl Beattie.

Madrid based Dorna Sports is the exclusive holder of all commercial and television rights for the FIM MotoGP World Championship, and has been assisted by IMG in the dealing process.

Network Ten has been the primary broadcast partner for MotoGP in Australia since 1996 and this new exclusive agreement ensures that ONE and TEN will take MotoGP to the broadest possible audience in Australia.

In announcing the deal, Network Ten’s general manager of sport, David White, said: “MotoGP is enjoying a resurgence in popularity in Australia off the back of Casey Stoner’s recent performances. We have forged a strong relationship with Dorna Sports and MotoGP and we are thrilled they have seen the enormous potential that a long-term partnership across our two free-to-air channels can deliver.”

“The structure of this agreement provides the perfect solution for MotoGP fans and further highlights the power of ONE to deliver top-quality LIVE sporting coverage to the widest possible audience at the best possible time.

Having the ability to broadcast all races LIVE on ONE and also have the coverage simulcast live or delayed on TEN following our Sunday night prime-time commitments is the foundation of our successful multi-channel strategy.”

Dorna Sports Managing Director Manel Arroyo stated: “We are delighted to extend our agreement with Network Ten, which will see all MotoGP events broadcast live on their new free-to-air sports channel ONE. We believe that the combination of the exposure through TEN and ONE will further expand the profile of our series and contribute to making the huge fan base for MotoGP that already exists in Australia even bigger.”

Adding to this, we will lose up to 6.5 laps per race in Ad breaks......which accounts to around one quarter of each race or approx 117 laps for the season.......no to mention the regions in oz which don't receive the HD signal yet, or the people who have to upgrade their setop box and antenna to receive it.....

Great stuff

I presume you have not subscribed to motogp.com previously.

I think the actual race commentary on motogp.com is the same as foxtel use (ie not very good), but I find the season package worthwhile for the live coverage of qualifying and some of the practice sessions and the videos etc anyway; I think you get extra data such as lap-time and sectional analyses from the practice and qualifying sessions as well, although having bought the package for a few years I can't remember how much of this is available to non-paying subscribers. The package has not been much over AUD $100 in the past, somewhat more for HD. The testing/pre-season subscription is worthless imo.

ONE were pretty good with live F1 coverage last year, not that I always watched it, but I share some of your reservations if motogp clashes with F1 or other sporting events available to TEN.

Everyone can get HD, free. The government will even pay for the satellite equip in places where terrestrial signal is unavailable.

There are two free satellite bands Aust wide. It means ONE should be available on at least one of the bands at anyone time. If you already have a satellite for Foxtel, that should already be receiving ONE, unless your provider has deliberately blocked the free to air stuff.

Also there is an SD clone of every HD chanel so far. ONE's clone is 12 in SD.

So if all 3 classes of GP bikes are broadcast live on ONE hd, then the delayed telecast is on channel 10?

Means I wont have to get Foxtel, except for world superbikes. I assume ONE will have advertisement breaks, but it IS possible for them to show the full race uninterrupted. They have done it in the past -Qatar 2008 I think? We need to lobby them to do that, as I hate it when the pivotal race moves occur during a "break". If they have to have ad breaks, I would prefer they leave no action out, by letting the race gradually fall behind real time, and then catch up during the period between races.

That wont be possible. I believe that you have recently been designated "persona non-grata" in Australia.

Sounds like thats the way it will be

I think ONE had a few live relays last season, and I must say, at that hour of the night/morning there were few advertisers and what they had they seemed to rationalise it to between the races with maybe one break about 1/4 the way in. It wasn't that bad really.

I can't see them running the practices live but they seem to be saying they will show the practise sessions. Hopefully at a sensible hour. Plus they are having a dedicated Pre-race show. Should all be good.

They'll probably repeat the whole thing on the night they have the Motgp classics running atm.

Good work Barry.

I just hope somebody at Ch 10 doesnt talpa, I mean tamper with a successful formula!

Just wait until it clashes with something, and no doubt this will happen often, this why fox has three dedicated channels, One round last year had to go to fueltv even! we will lose at least six laps per race in ads-guaranteed

Obviously I don't watch onehd as I'm not a fan of baseball, or freetoair commercial tv in oz, so I missed the ads.

And we have some more great bunny logic, now my dislike of Stacey not only removes me from the motogp supporters ranks, it also officially disassociates me from my country of birth! I feel so ashamed......

Did I see you on tv a few years back on the beach at cronulla??

Well now I'm getting the picture as to why a guy would not want Free to air live GP .....

yes they do have a somewhat patriotic Stoner bias ..........

Say no more

Thats a very very strange comment. Persecution complex? Ethnic or religious minority? Chip on your shoulder? (well, Ive already seen strong evidence of that!

I,m as much a white supremacist as Jumkie.

I just think exclusion is a fair result for somebody who continually attacks the "Young Australian of the Year".
As Barry and I are on the Immigration and Border Protection Senate Sub-commitee ( as well as " The Australian of the year" selection panel), we only thought it fair to give you warning before the official statement concerning your Residency Status is released. . A bit of gratitude for leaking sensitive information to our young expatriate would have been a more appropriate response.

Thats the young of today; just don,t recognize generosity when its right in front of them.

Ah Talpa ,Talpa, Talpa.............what is to become of you............
