in my opinion the 500cc class was far more entertaining than the now 800cc.
it was a case of rider and machine, the back tyre lighting up was a joy to watch, alas no more due to the puters and traction control.

what do you think ?

id choose the 990cc

the 800cc are good to watch, savage fast corner speed and lots of sliding about

think it'll be great when the 250cc is turned into the 600cc in 2012. I've to admit I don't really remember the 500cc that well, I was like 14 y.o. back then. I loved the 990's too

i agree 100%. but for better or for worse we have to move with the times.

I loved the 990's, but there gone now. I'd personally like to see a 'run what you brung' type formula, with just a fuel limit and then you build whatever capacity and format you want (as long as things don't get out of hand).

it was the 1 litre class but the actual cc was 990

I agree! I miss the sense of danger and the skill needed to ride those old beasts.

from the start of the 500 races (and i mean in the years of rossi) the tension started at the red light.
rossi doing his bit as he does, then u know it be a great fight.
the mugello incident for example
the elbow off biaggi to push rossi into the dirt then the finger !!!!

now its a off the line sort the order then thats hiw it finishes.
f1 meets MOTO GP.

the rules may change again.......
990 or 800 cc is the way 4ward but the 500 cc is the way to be,for riders fans teans etc
im old school racing not a robotic fly by wire traction controlist moto gp robot...fizz whizz phiszts my batts have bin pulled......................................................................fizt smoke grrr.

To be honest, I have loved all the classes. It's just been a different challenge for the riders who have had to adopt different styles to suit the machinery available.

Still love the 990's just for the sound alone !

I started watching during the 500 era, so they're close to my heart.
I remember being worried that the 990's wouldn't be as good, but I think they were probably my favourite, a lot of great racing.
800 have so far been a bit of a letdown, hope it picks up.

This is what I'd love too see - imagine the types of bikes we could have out there?

Nooooo. No fuel limits. It makes not one jot of difference to the environment given the huge amount of stuff and people that are transported around the world for a seasons Motogp whether the fuel for a race is limited to 21 litres or not at all. What limiting fuel does do in the modern electronic era is mean that the electronics need to take over to ensure that the fuel lasts the race. Hence the comments by the British Eurosport team at Qatar regarding changing/leaning off fuel maps as the race progressed. This negates any "saving" of the tyre a rider may make if that does not also save fuel - although he could go faster due to the fact that his tyres are still fine, the electronics will have to limit the revs due to the fuel limits.

Other than that I think your idea of "run what you brung" is great.

dude you got nfi do you??

doohan lead from start to finish for 5 years on the 500's

rossi did the same thing for 5 years on the 500/990s

they dominated by winning 60% of races and pol position in the years they won.

and how is it any diferent now?

absolutely agree with this. of all the rules to change, this 1 never should have been touched. theres no place for fuel restrictions in racing imho. it's ....... stupid!
