Has to be said - magnificent ride from Espargaro and a great sideways pass on Tores and Kalio.

Anyway, .... that...Redding's pass on Nakagami at Borgo San Lorenzo was masterful.

I expected Terol to win this but that was hilarious when Terol let Scott back through...I remember Barbera used to try .... like that in 250 and it always backfired....this is Mugello, not a velodrome. Aspar's face said it all. Love to be in that garage when he gets in.

Like P.I.If you can win a race at Mugello - you've got something very special.

Catalunya will be hotter....can you stand the heat Pol?

Stuck this back in over the other thread to avoid usual .... storm over spoilers

Commentators mentioned that Espargaro has been struggling since they changed the composition of the tires. He said they really disagree with his chassis and set-up. OTH - lots of other riders have good things to say about the new compound. Hopefully Pol will adjust. Without him up at the front, Redding looked like he was out for a stroll to the chips shop.

Kesh, I read you say this before, and I managed to ignore it, I can ignore it no more sir.  You'll have to explain to me the difference between Redding's Honda Kalex and Pol Espargaro's Honda Kalex, so I can better understand what "tire" issue Pol is unable to mitigate.  I'm aware that not all Kalex's are/were created equal by the German engineering firm, but then again Marc Marquez is no longer in Moto2.

Arrabi, I thought PEpargaro was .... on the day (well as ...... as a grand prix racer can be who finished 4th in a race, cough are we cool ALR).  It was a tough race, and I disagree that Redding just "strolled to the chips" as Kesh described.  I saw a battle for the lead, neither Terol nor Nakagami (well at least in the beginning) were offering any quarter....until Terol gave him the wave pass.  Sure, the heat played a roll, I mean, because PEspunkgroo was gifted a few places from riders ahead of him rolling off the track (I'll assume it was a tire issue that cause the loss of grip...).  However, I must disagree with the general conclusion that Terol let Scotty by as some kind of strategy.  I'm more inclined to think Terol let him by because he was experiencing some latter stage tire degradation that ironically had been better managed by Redding.  Now granted, I haven't had time to read all the post race press releases and nor have I checked any BJC updates, but this is my best guess.

Regarding the tire management and the feather weight size of Pol (shelving the fact his face just begs to be slapped), I believe we spoke of this at Austin briefly, or perhaps did I imagine it?  But, I think Pol's weight has been canceled out by the ballast requirement, right?  Either way, its of no consequence, Redding is the real deal, this as much I gathered when he stuffed Marky into Vale last year.  The confidence hasn't ebbed since, and out of my big mouth (ala Cal) came a few "Come on Son!" In honor of Phillipians and Mr. Pete Benson, for whom I have a soft spot in my heart for ever more,  "Come on Scott!"

Edit to add: 3 ....... replies?  Really?  ....... Willski is kicking our ..... man.  Hes got 43 replies as of this edit.  Its probably time to seriously consider putting him on our BJC list.

Nakagami seems like he has taken a step forward too this season, qualifying very well so far.  He just needs to translate that to better results on race day instead of a DNF.

Goodness me! (He said in his best Lord of Lestershire accent)...  Well I don't pretend to any inside knowledge of the differences between the bikes, but just off the top of my head the potential issues could be power delivery dues to the manner in which the two different teams adjust the electronics, different spring rates (or springs themselves) utilized by the two different crews in the front forks, different rear shocks used by the two different teams, disparate qualities in terms of general competence, of either teams in set-up, differences in weight distribution due to set-up of tank and seat ergonomics etc. But mainly - Redding weighs the same this year as last, so his bike should be relatively unchanged; whereas, Espargaro now rides a chassis that is altered by the addition of however many Kgs were required. Remember how much that change screwed up the Hondas when they were forced to suddenly to add weight, and how long it took, (to say nothing of how much money was spent creating new iterations of the chassis)  before the bike would handle in a manner that was suitable to Stoner and Pedrosa.

I don't think Espargaro's explanation is farfetched. After all he was a fierce competitor last year. I think it's reasonable to expect the same this year. I have no horse in the race where Moto2 is concerned. Just how I am. Over the years - with regards to that class, times when I've been excited have been when watching an underdog take it to the heavily favored riders with better kit. I always used to root for Dovi, Kallio (on the KTM) and Aoyama. I went apeshit when the Indonesian kid fronted the show (and really looked to win) in the rain last year at Sepang.

Strolling to the chips shop was of course a figure of speech. In my case, the implication was not that the 2nd and 3rd place guys were lame but rather that were Pol up at the front, Redding's win would have been that much more impressive.

BTW - have you got a Union Jack tattooed on your .... yet?

Oh yeah, ... ......' Willski!

Espargaro was right on the weight limit. He hasn't had to add any weight (or only very little) to make the weight limit.

Thanx.  I had been looking for this and you just saved me a bunch of time.

Kesh, nice list of ways one can set up a bike, my question perhaps wasn't clear enough, so again, what is available to Pol that isn't available to Scott given they are both on Kalex?  Now given Krops throwing his weight into the subject (no pun) that Pol had little additional weight ballast; I'm not so sure the claim holds much water that he can't get around the "tire" situation that Redding has apparently mitigated.  Let me put it this way, using your example, it would be like the two HRC guys saying one can't mitigate his set up to the tires while the other can.  Keep in mind, I'm way out of my depth on this one being Moto2, not that I'm ever ankles deep (head first) in .... regarding MotoGP.

I don't have a horse in Moto2 either, except I'm rooting for Redding to crush the Spanish Farcemada's stacking of the field and cashing of contract chips before they hatch... ;)  ---I put the emoticon because I've learned that in the past, sometimes my attempt at being incongruous has whooshed over peeps heads.  Admittedly, I am more to blame.  LOL  (laughing out loud)

Agree, Pol is not a slouch, but he aint sliced bread either.  He did come runner up last year, prior to the end of the MurderMac fuzzy rules era.   But does it really matter, even a 2nd tier Spanish rider will get on a competitive bike and then his near equals will look like .... eventually, right Innone?

I asked him at the Jerez test. From memory, it's less than a kilogram. Heavier boots and thicker seat foam.

Like I said - I don't know the specifics. Maybe it just comes down to riding style and the new tire just doesn't suit the way he rides. You have to admit - Pol looked pretty good coming from way back through that field of riders to end up to 4th at the end. I don't care which nationality takes the championship. I thought Espargaro showed great heart while racing against Marc last year; I'll be disappointed if he doesn't get back into the fray this year.

Honestly Kesh, i wasnt impressed. Review the race again, he was stuck for a long time at 11,10 then moved up as gifts from fallers. He sat at 9th, while the dudes in front of him scrapped it out. It was the scrapping ahead of him that made his moves forward more about mistakes than his own pressing. Thats my bias take. Count the number of mishaps and crashers ahead of Pol.

He showed a lot of crying.

But I agree, the racing is much better with him up at the front.

So Bro - since you've discounted Pol's explanation and my theories.... what would you speculate - is the reason that Espargaro is not doing so well this year?

I stand corrected. Well I'm out of here. Gotta go out and get me some Worcestershire sauce.
