Just as I predicted it looks almost certain that now that Marquez is moving on to MotoGP, Dorna is now going to do what everyone has asked for and what every one thinks should have been the rule for day 1 of Moto2 and bring in a minimum rider/bike weight limit for 2013.

Co-incidence? I think not.

Well called Oh prognosticator of prognosticators!

Tomorrow, after beers, dips, chips, snags, chops, etc I will do a poo bigger than Marky Mark.

Rules changes to benefit Marquez: 2

Legitimacy and integrity of the series: 0

So will this lead to riders 'crash dieting' between weigh in and race start? And drinking a litre of water on the slow down lap.

Riders gonna have lead weights in their leathers?

Smells dodgy. Is Dorna.

Dodgy my arse. A minimum rider/bike weight will help avoid the dreaded pilotus anorexius and dwarfus syndromes.

Do you think they wan't to continue the trend towards jockey-sized pilots? I' not saying they want six foot two hundred pound riders, but a baseline of the average of all the pilots on the grid would be fair.

Saw Doohan interviewing Casey today. Also saw Cam McConville (V8 supercar racer) interview Rossi.

Small riders have been the norm for some time, Doohan and Stoner are about the same size, and while Rossi is a big rider Cam looked like a giant freak near him. So Dani and Mossi look like a Lewis Carroll creation, as did Loris, Elias and others, but there aren't any big guys there.

Trying to think of the last real big rider there was at the top of a series. And by big I don't mean average. I am genuinely double the weight of a lot of these riders.

Throwing it over to Powerslide to enlighten me.

It shouldn't depend on size.

I'm just interested in how they are going to police the rule, and how the weight will be carried. By rider or machine.

I would imagine a heavier person on a lighter machine will have an advantage over a lighter person riding a heavier machine.

I suppose I'll wait for more info..

rider minimum weight at least 70kg with gear please, everybody under that to have some lead under the seat.

it'd be interesting to know how many % of adult males are below 65kg, and how big that percentage is in the lower gp classes

Chalk this win up again to the smallest rider and mfg's with the biggest budget. I think ankle weights and who can put the lead closest to the center of gravity on a bike will have the best package.

It would greatly effect pitch and roll. I'd even guess as to making suspension tuning a tad simpler to with a smaller/lighter rider.

Sheesh, when people start seeing Redding still not winning races, they'll continue to ..... and moan about midgets/weight limit. Go ahead, try all the handicaps you want. Rider skill + great overall bike tend to win out most of time regardless of rider size.

how bout a specified place where the weights can be put?

preferrably where it tends to punish the riders

problem solved.

in any case, 65kg is just healthy for anybody ,no reason why even guys like pedrosa can't beef up to that.

guys above 2 meter and 80kgs will never be gp champions, but if you're 1.80-1.85 and 70-75kg you should have a good chance

i don't care about redding, i thought he ...... up the last corner.

that almost only the very small and light riders can make the jump from moto3/moto2 to motogp is a real problem

i'm relatively short compared to most of my friends and i felt like a giant walking through the paddock.

I don't think there will be a logical way of enforcing that, so MFG's will design around it. As for the rider, maybe have a scale next to their starting motor to be used before mounting for the sighting lap, with a official holding led weights to be added or removed to a belt. This could get a bit complicated.
