Might have to sell the Superkart

Well i'm feeling pretty bummed at the moment because it looks like I am done in Superkarts. I'm doing the British GP at Cadwell Park in July and maybe the Bank holiday BSB demo at the same track but after that i'm probably going to have to sell it. I've had rotten luck the last 2 years or so and the cost of the sport is escalating to the point where its crippling just to compete, let alone be competitive.

I have considered keeping it and just doing one or two events a year but the reality is if you look forward to that and then the kart breaks you feel pretty ...... so I'm considering doing a cheaper series that I can run in more often for less work.

Either that or pray a rich chick/lottery win comes my way......

This may be a dumb question 22 but it has always bugged me. Why do go carts never have a roll bar. I can't see that much weight being added by simply adding a bar that is taller than your head. I cringe at how exposed you guys allow yourself to be

Thanks guys, I have a bit of time to decide and have the money (mostly) for the GP so going to see how that goes.

Its regularly been touted in the past and my primary answer is: Because we arent .......

Being serious though, rollbars have been proposed especially after a fatal accident about 4yrs ago but what protects another driver from the rollbar of a rolling kart? There is then also the strength issue etc and the facilities to fit it in so they go by the notion still that its preferable to not have seatbelts and be thrown from a heavy rolling kart (like a bike) than to be strapped into it. Having said that it takes butter to get even me in and out of mine!

How about a Dirty Rotten Scoundrals stratergy ?

Watch movie 15 times, learn rules how to grovel with class and purpose, present the picture of a cherished family member (yes No22 cart
<
) is in dire need of special medical assitance that is far beyond your family can provide. Damn if only this could be done

Sorry to hear mate hopefully the impossible happens for you !

These Supercarts are wild - I recall seeing them race for the first time at the Adelaide F1 GP in '85 !

Thanks for the kind words guys, i'll see what the summer brings.

Add 100 onto that and you're about in the ballpark....

Its a Superkart, not a go kart. Go karts are made of wood and raced down hills. This baby has a 250cc engine putting out 65hp and weighs 150kg.

The division 1 karts do closer to 180....

only just found this thread... thats sucks man i hope you can keep the dream alive, if i was rich id chuck you the cash....

what motor are you running? honda cr250r ?

Yup Jaz, its a CR250.

Well got the British Superkart GP this weekend so we'll see how it goes. Hoping it isn't my last though.
