Anybody out there go to Le Mans at the weekend?
Well me and 6 mates did and it was a nightmare. Trying to get in and out was ridiculous with bikes overheating while others decided to walk their bike to the checkpoint only to stumble on the unstable ground and drop their bikes!
Outside was no better. Roads were gridlocked with no police control and even our filtering was 5 mph.
Inside the stadium toilet facilities were totally inadequate with long queues so many resorted to urinating anywhere. You could hardly get near the food stalls , when you did it was a rip-off.
Apart from that, we had a great view in the Zarco stand and the sound was brilliant. We love the racing and go quite often...but we will NOT return to Le Mans.
Love to hear anybody else`s views.
Cheers

I can't imagine it's the first time this has happened since they've been hosting GP for awhile now. Or did it just get worse from prior years?

Thank you for the report. I've heard this before that Le Mans lacks organization and accommodations.

Do you have any pictures to post? And good stories? I always like to see and hear the fan perspective.

Not sure how much of this is applicable to the French GP, but this was a write-up I read awhile back about attending the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

A Jalop's Guide to Attending the 24 Hours of Le Mans

They do mention the bathroom situation being so-so.

But, everyone I've ever talked to who attended the 24 Hours said it was a fantastic experience. I wonder if using the Bugatti Circuit is why the French GP experience was so bad since you're cramming nearly 100K into the 2.6 mile circuit instead of the 8.5 mile Circuit de la Sarthe.

Which is why i will miss Indy. Absolute masters of organizing an event and the facilities are excellent. Food was decent at a respectable price. Everything about Indy was top notch except the track, and all it needed was some elevation changes to give it some character.

I always thought all the empty grandstands looked bad, shame Laguna wasn't suitable any more.

My take on anything in France, unless you have some sort of VIP deal, you need to be prepared for certain complications...

Capacity of over 3/4 of a million (grandstand+common areas).

If you get 150,000 in there the place will look anemic. But the event was top notch. I could list many fantastic aspects of this event, like Povol and others have said, organization and accommodations were second to none. But I'll tell you, one of the things that struck me was a real palpable sense that the people working there highly appreciated your attendance. So many people expressed their appreciation, "thank you for visiting us" and "thank you for attending" etc. I even felt welcomed by cops! I can't overstate this about the people of Indy. Nicest people at a race. I had made up my mind last year I was going to return for a 4th time. Too bad it was canceled.

Even though I confess I've not been there, from a tv viewer's PoV it's always produced good racing.

It is fantastic. Small track, you can walk around easily. Stand on hill and you could view 75% of it all. Spectacular landscape, wonderful elevation changes. It may not have been stacked with world class garages, but it wasn't designed on a computer. The character of it is lifelike.

Unfortunately Dorna were only interested in what they could extort from it.

The French are savages,
Working all day and trying to sleep (in the paddock)
I wear earplugs and still hear them.... all night long
This is all you hear from 11am until 8am.
These fuckers sleep only about 3 hours a day, if that.
A lot of them don't go there to watch the gp, they just go there to party at the campsite.

The circuit implemented a ban on Chainsaws, these savages will cut and burn everything.
That's why they are now supplied with scarp lumber to burn

Thanks for the revealing clips on LeMans MotoGp bike culture shovelhead. I'm all for people letting their hair down and having some fun but I have too much mechanical sympathy to be able to watch all the way through that second clip! Reminds of of that docco about Bathurst - "Hoon Capital"
