I had no idea Marquez was a talented flat track racer. It makes sense though, since he rides GP bikes in a similar manner. He won the Superprestigio easily and was battling AMA Champ Brad Baker straight up in the  " Open Final"  when they tangled and he went down. I still find it hard to beleive that manufacturers allow these activities given what they are payed, but i guess there isnt  many safe ways to train sliding a bike at 130 mph. Dirt bikes seem to be the best and worst friends of road racers.

Yeah, that was very entertaining. Watched it on CW website.  Marc was awesome, but Brad Baker was better! He was much better at controlling his bike. Hope Nicky attends next years event.

No doubt, and im sure he was probably playing with Marquez, but Marquez was so much better than the others it wasnt even close. After he went down, Baker played the last 3 laps at half throttle while he was checking to see where Marquez was and if he was all right.

It would be ironic if MM got hurt crashing on dirt, considering how many times he went down on tarmac and walked away unscathed. Great riding by both him and Baker, though. They were in a class by themselves.

Marquez was up to his usual antics. He bumped Baker to get him off line and create space for him to take the lead. Baker gave Marquez a hard elbow that sent him down.

I enjoyed it. Marqez gave and received; he didn't cry about the contact.  Rubbing and elbowing is racing.

I thought Marquez handled the bike really well, but he did ride like a beginner (hugging the inside line) and looked a little out of control on more than one occasion.  Now, if you put a professional speedway rider on the track, then you would see some proper sliding

I thought brad baker was a flat tracker?

And this was a tiny indoor oval on "weird" bikes, hence what I think garb in is getting at.

Though I wonder if that track would be too small for a 500 speedway bike?

Baker is a flat tracker. He rides 130 mph bikes on tracks usually half mile and mile  Those bikes were more like a motard on what looked to be on a track that measured around 1/5 mile

Sorry, but I must admit I thought speedway/oval/flat tracking was more or else the same... but, though I like watching' I really know FA about them!!

Speedway bikes have a single cylinder 500cc max capacity, 1 speed transmission and no brakes. They race on tiny bull rings with a max size of a quarter mile and reach approx 75 mph. Most Flat tracks are either 1 mile or half mile and they exceed 130 mph on the larger tracks.

@BarryMachine; some of the UK speedway tracks can be very small and there used to be this indoor travesty of speedway held in the closed season at Brighton which looked to be smaller than what is shown in the video of the OP.  Furthermore some practice tracks are virtually circles where the bike is always sideways.
