Is it me, or has MM been off form lateley? Whats happened to him?

Spa 3
Por 4
Chn 3
Fra 4
Ita 4
Cat 3
Ned 2
Usa DNF
Gbr DNF
Ger 7
Cze 6

He had such a strong start to the season, second in the overall standings........but a couple of DNF's looks like it has knocked his confidence.

What happened at Brno? He was fighting it out, battling reall had for 3 place (I think), then bang.........6th. Did he burn his tyres?

I think overall Marco is a huge talent, but is he world champ material..........I'm not sure. I think he really should be able to finish second to Vale in the overall standings...........theres no reason why he shouldnt!

Ben out.

i think it's definetly a confidence problem. i think laguna really messed with it. i expected him to do better in brno being it's a track that suit's his style. sort of like max. who did well in the race.

I think it is a rediscovery of the Marco of 2003 and 2004. When he started 2005 with the Gresini squad they told him not to worry about his times and just tell the team what feels good and bad and worry about riding, not times. And he excelled. Since Laguna he had two falls and now is in a real fight for championship positions. In situations like this racers tend to look at times and see how far in front or behind they are of the nearest or other important riders. My assumption is Marco isn't just focusing on riding anymore, he is riding not to lose.

good point , sounds about right. if thats the case he better refocuse or he's gonna be doin alot of crashing again!

I don't consider Melandri very talented, obviously he is good because otherwise he wouldn't be in MGP, but I think his 250cc was quite a fake.
His only rival was Fonsi Nieto, a guy who is now trolling around WSBK. All the old good 250cc riders had already moved up to MGP (Kato, Nakano, Jaque) and the next generation (Pedrosa, Stoner, Dovi, POggiali, Barberá, Lorenzo...) were still in 125cc. The other good riders (Porto, De Puniet) wer riding ...... private bikes and Elias was only a rookie.

It's was a cake for Melandri.

I don't think he'll ever be a MGP champion.

Doubtful, I say that and I am a Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden fan.

if marco still learns theres a chance of him getting very close cus his early season form suggests hes got sumthink but its all about running consistently over 17 races, as 4 him not being very talented well he aint bad..

It must be a confidence thing and the fact that theres severall other guys out there who want 2nd position as much as he does. Winner is right. When we criticise a rider for dropping to 6th 7th place finishes we think its bad, and it is for them, but what we must understand is that it takes so many factors to be at the front and if one or two of those are not at 100% then you can drop from the front to the back quite easily. Motogp will be very interesting when Rossi, Biaggi, Gibernau ,Barros, Capirossi and all the older guys leave and we have a titanic scrap between the young guns Hayden, Hopper, Melandri, Pedrosa, Vermeulen, hopefully Kiyonari too. Thats when i think Edwards could be champ... he has the speed and the consistency.

True Kev. you do get the impression that he is old tho, he is so wise in the sport.

i bet so many of the other guys are intimidated by him, ive read an article before about psychologists reading the other guys body language in press conferences as 'being submissive to the alpha(dominant) male'. Very interesting.

They also said that one of the only guys who didnt seem to be 'submissive' towards him was Tamada. Although you could easily put that down to the fact he speaks very little english!

Melandri seemed to impress in odd races almost like Tamada had a spell, then Nakano and even Colin Edwards.I don`t think Marco will ever outshine the others consistantly,at least not in the present rider company.

I totally believe that he was on top of the world until his trip to Laguna. It appears that the crashes he had there has damaged his confidence.

I'm sure he will snap out of it. He really is talented. Every racer experiences the same thing at least once...except for Vale...
