In front of a computer. Duh ;)
link, scroll down, it is Italian first and then English. And then all the way to the bottom of the article, as most of it involves Laguna and that race

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Now we have some holiday time but we can’t wait to see Casey and Marco back on track again in Brno.

Normally I would be pleased for Marco, except for the fact that he looks like he has just given up and is waiting to be put out of his misery.

All these rumors of Marco not finishing the season are all BS. I believe Melandri signed a two year contract if I remember right.
We will have the same Ducati Factory team for next year.

I don't think Marco is the type of guy to race unhappily just for the money... i'm sure the second year could be terminated by both parties if Melandri has the choice to finish the season.. who knows.

i was really hoping this wouldn't happen. for both parties. marco obviously doesn't get a long with the duc, and the duc needs a different rider. just do the switch damnit!

The contract for the 2009 season has already been terminated. This according to Melandri's manager, and according to Livio Suppo. But I agree about the remainder of 2008, it would be difficult for the two to cut ties without some sort of compensation issue.

Thanks for the links!

Sometimes the facts get covered in all the fluff around here.

Sometimes? It's pretty much our job to hide the facts.

Come on, put the poor lad out of his misery, I cant believe there dragging it on longer than it really needs to be dragged out. The melandri/Duc combo is a dead weight. Get melandri on a factory honda or atleast a suzuki or kwaka next year.

But he has been a little bit faster on the last races. I think he was in top 10 at Laguna, but screwed up and went wide. Maybe he'll be able to save a couple of decent results in the remaining races.

Melandri will never play with the top boys on the Duke! He will not take a single point from Rossi or Pedrosa. If Ducati wants to win the WC, they have to let him go...okay, I mean fire him. Sad but true...I like Melandri but I think his aim to stay at the moment has nothing to do with "possible better results".

It would be better for Melandri as well at the Kwak, because in that case he could blame the green meanie for the poor results. Which would be basically true and he could have get a decent ride for 2009.

It seems pretty much standard now that MotoGP contracts are for x years with a get out clause at the end of each season. Toseland and Capirossi's deals were both 2 years with the second year as an option. The get out clauses will include performance and I'm sure they're numerous. Some MotoGP riders get paid enormous sums (Marco's reputedly on 3 times Stoner's original signing salary) and like any area involving big money, the contracts will be convoluted and watertight.

I think the whole Marco / Duc ongoing situation can now only be explained by whatever clauses are in that contract. it doesn't suit either of them for Marco to continue riding that bike. He clearly can't leave without penalty, or he would have taken the Kwak ride. I'm getting the impression that Suppo's belief that Marco's performance will improve must be down to a financial incentive Marco won't get if he doesn't start getting results, or some kind of instant termination clause that has now come into effect.

I may be wrong but if you had another rider ready that can perform - and they've got 2 in Sete and Canepa - and Marco wanted to walk away then it would seem logical just to call it quits. That only leaves money.

EDIT: Forgive me if I'm recovering old ground but I'm new you know

As some of you may know Marco will be in for the race. He is supposed to have a good chance after his bit at laguna cause he showed promise. Now I love Ducati and really would love to see an Italian on the thing winning the title. I think by the decision of Livio Suppo he shares the same vision. SO we will wait again and see if he has a chance to get things in order. You have to admit that he is trying and also has the ability to do so he just needs a good result.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Doohan says, “I saw the race but it is impossible to say which of the two was right and wrong on the track. Only Casey and Vale can know that.”
I think that the words of this great Australian champion are the best way with which to close the debate.
The most important thing is that, for the fourth Grand Prix running, Casey was extremely fast, demonstrating his pace in impressive style in each of the practice sessions. The feeling he has with the Desmosedici is magic…. And there are still seven races to go.
Laguna Seca was a positive weekend for Marco too, albeit without the final result that he hoped to achieve. In the warm-up he was very fast, as he had been in the free practice. In the race however he was unfortunate to touch a “paletto” on entry into the first curve which caused him to run off track. He showed however that he was making a constant effort, just as he did at Sachsenring. He was consistently up with the front-runners during the practices and warm-up and we’re convinced that he too has understood how to get the best out of the Desmosedici.

fully agree with mr suppo and mickd knows it all and hes neutral he speaks from the seat of his pants, i think that casey and vale will have a monumental battle from now on because neither will give an inch to each other and casey will know from now on irrespective if he has the fastest bike that he has to fight till ‘death do them part’ to win because vale is riding for the championship and he will not give anything away, that is vales riding style and the sooner casey realises this the better the racing will be. folks were in for a great exciting ‘rest of the season’ and i must say as an aussie that ‘may the best man win’, we aussies dont hold grudges 'but most degenerately ‘want our champ to win' so lets sit back and enjoy the battle for the rest of the year!!! cant wait for after the summer break, bring it on!!! but marco just cant ride that red 'bull' i have lots of respect for marco but ‘its like a rap dancer trying to dance the tango’
