Think this was mentioned on here some time ago, but this is really worth watching if you get the chance.
Anyone flying Emirates this month, look out for the movie; Love, Speed and Loss.
I'm sure it is also available on-line. Great movie.
It is the story of the Konig GP bike and Kim Newcombe.

Kim Newcombe is remembered as the New Zealander who came second in the 1973 World 500 Grand Prix Championship, despite being killed before the end of the season. He's famous for the bike he rode, which he built, developed, and maintained himself, using the Konig engine, which was originally designed for an outboard motor. The engine was refined by the German manufacturer Dieter Konig who became his friend and mentor.

This movie shows what it was like racing GP bikes in the 70's. The Konig was the first bike to challenge the all conquering MV Agusta's of Phil Read and Agostini. The Konig bike was built entirely by Kim Newcombe and Deiter Konig, with very limited budget. When they were unable to find a good rider, Newcombe started riding the bike himself.

Newcombe was seriously injured at a non-championship event at Silverstone at Stowe Corner. After taking his customary walk of the track prior to the event, Newcombe had requested that hay bales be positioned on the outside of Stowe Corner before the race but race officials refused, stating they were "not required". In the race itself, Newcombe slid off the circuit at that very corner, and collided with the concrete barrier. He died from his severe head injuries three days later.
In the same year, two other Champioship riders were also killed.

Grat movie if you get the chance.
