Today I went with my dad and a few others to watch the frst round of the 2007 British Hillclimbing Championships, which was held just 35-45 minutes away from me at Loton Park. I didn't think it was going to be very good as it's not F1 or WTCC, but I hadn't been to a motorsport event since I was very little so I thought I go. Now, after the event, I can't believe how much fun it was - and just how popular it was! It was a cool day weatherwise, not hot but not cold either and the crowd came in their thousands - you should of seen the length of the car park lines from the actual event, miles!! I didn't know anything about hillclimbing and know no-one who does it, but hell yeah it was great to watch!
They had different classes, eg. ex F1 cars, stock cars, older cars, kit cars, minis etc, so there were different speeds, sounds and generally driving styles to see. Hillclimbing is basically a time trial for each driver but progressing up a hill (even though they come down a hill too, but it's still a road circuit.)
I didn't realise who he was at the time but I met the number 2 ranked best driver in the series, Scott Moran, as we talked to him after in the pits about his car and career. (Brilliant F1-style car he owns).
Well i'm not going to go on about it, so here are some photos: (Just a few of which 61 total I took!!)
