Grand Prix du Portugal : décision de la Direction de Course
On Saturday 15th September, during the 250cc qualifying practice , the Spanish rider number 1
Jorge Lorenzo made a gesture prejudicial to the interest of the sport. According to the article
3.3.1.2 of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations, the Race Direction
has decided to penalise the rider with a fine of USD 5000.
No protest has been lodged.
The decision of the Race Direction is final.
Le samedi 15 septembre, pendant les essais qua lificatifs 250cc, le pilote espagnol numéro 1 Jorge
Lorenzo a fait un geste portant préjudice aux intérêts du sport. Selon l’article 3.3.1.2 du Règlement
du Championnat du Monde des Grands Prix de Courses sur Route de la FIM, la Direction de
Course a dé cidé d’infliger au pilote une amende de USD 5000.
Aucune réclamation n’a été déposée.
La décision de la Direction de Course est définitive.

lorenzo was fined for unsportsman like conduct after he kicked out at marco simoncelli after he almost ran into him during qualifying. lorenzo was going at pace & simoncelli was putzin around not payin attention.

Same thing with Hopkins and Checa(?) at Laguna Seca, when Hopkins got slowed up on his flying lap, and tried to kick the guy. I think he got the same fine.

During the broadcast on the race the commentators mentioned that after qualifying Lorenzo said to someone he was going to go over and complain to the officials about some riders. The commentators then joked that when he did that they turned around and slapped a fine on him for his actions. Lorenzo then reached down and took off a golden boot as payment. (that last part, just kidding).

Riders need to stop losing their temper like this. Having riders cruising in the way is dangerous, but waving limbs at them is not making it safer. I think riders should be allowed to complain (quietly) when this happens and after a few offences the rider in question should be approached, and fined if he continues.

Skillful, talented riders who know a lot about safety wouldn't do that to kill themselves or others. They know it won't harm them, that's why they do it. A quick gesture on the track seems to always solve the problem
