Leopard team cheating?

Someone somewhere hinted Leopard has been playing with fuel pressure adding a few horsepower. I wonder if there is any truth to this. Out of boredom I'm watching past seasons, in some places it certainly seems like Leopard bike has slightly more power. If true then it must be a rider activated boost. Most of the time there is no apparent power advantage. But I will carry on watching past Moto3 seasons, keeping a close eye on Leopard bikes.

Does moto3 have a fuel usage limit??

Because you would think they would just be gambling with that if they raise presdure more?? Or maybe it just atomises better and they can shorten injector pulse more ... its interesting anyhow.

Leopard does seem to have more straight line speed than the other bikes and Matt Birt and Steve Day always commented on how Leopard are "rocket ships."

According to the BT Sport commentators the Leopard bikes have been protested several times by other teams, but Dorna/FIM inspection has never found anything that breaches any rules.

There is also an intriguing entry in the Moto3 regulations. From 2022, the wiring loom, fuel pump assembly, and pressure regulator have been designated as a performance part. This means they must be homologated by the Technical Director, and made available to all teams once approved. Though we cannot know for certain, this may be connected to the remarkable speed of the Leopard Hondas. There were many question marks over where their superior speed came from, over both the KTMs and the other Honda Moto3 machines. This change could point to where Leopard had found an advantage.

And if so, great work by that team to find that capability.

But I am torn as I love the innovation and the fact that the team has the advantage, why should they then be forced to make it available against domination where a team gets the right benefit.

To me, I kind of like a middle ground where if the advantage is the loom, then DORNA release how and why but the other teams still need t o then develop it themselves

Agreed. Yes Leopard may have an advantage but how often do you see one or two bikes pull away from the pack in a Moto3 race? Not often. Riders regularly use the slipstream to go from 5th or 6th to 1st on a long straight and that's after they go 4 or 5 abreast into the turn. Great racing to watch. I love me some Moto3.

I agree with you and preferred it when all of the classes employed actual racing bikes. I guess if you want to go for a control formula this sort of thing does allow those with the most resources/money to have an advantage though.
