Pedrosa at the bottom just the way I like it.

Stoner is going to win this with ease. He could probably crash, get on the bike again and still win the race.

It's gonna be a hell of a long day for Yamaha\Rossi as they pull out all the stops to catch Stoner. Haydens up front and CV isn't doing to badly. Capper & Pedrosa get the true grit award.

Good point .... I can't remember a year of more anticipation waiting to see how the weekend would unfold.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mstar @ Jul 19 2008, 03:08 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>i think the problem is that when we see 1sec advantage over rossi there is NO WAY stoner is 1 sec quicker then rossi on ANY TRACK! or for reference pedrosa who wiped the floor with stoner in 250cc,

so fans want to see equal machinary (or close as dorna can) so we can see who is the best.
thats all nothing against stoner at all.

oh no. there is NO way that anyone could ever be faster than rossi! it's just not humanly possible! he will race until 2010 and dominate every race, on every track, and that is the law.

please. FINALLY. someone has come up and challenged rossi. it's enjoyable if you'd just stop and think about it. and i'm sure rossi is quite enjoying the competition as well. now only if his fans would.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Andy Roo @ Jul 19 2008, 06:33 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Yes, at last we have the "track position traction control fairy" riding around with Casey sprinkling fairy dust and whisking him from section to section where in pixel perfect 3Dmania he picks up a bucket of coins or a strawberry and gets a bonus point before continuing on in his virtual reality world…this is a terrible representation from people in tragic and possibly incurable denial.

The ECU Casey has is made by Magneti Marelli. Yamaha owns this company. There is a picture of Valentino Rossi on the opening page of the motor sport section of their website - and you all thought Casey was their poster boy.

Casey has the series one ECU and Valentino has the updated series 2 which is far more capable. The Ducatis Kawasakis and satellite Yamahas all have the same ECU. It works well for the Yamahas and one Ducati but for Team green and the other Duc's it hasn't helped.

There is no control from the pits, it's not allowed and it's a rumour started by people who just have difficulty saying Casey rides fast. It is beyond the pall that this would be discussed in any serious and intelligent way.

However there are other forums on the net for people who believe in all kinds of conspiracies, UFO's, Bigfoot and stuff like that.

Bigfoot may be the mystery ECU programmer working for Ducati (it's just as realistic). He may also be an alien. That should answer all your questions.
Well said

Hey guys a thought just occurred to me.... With Hopkins being out of the race this year... Nicky may stand a chance of making it through the first lap.

Do you guys ever stop to think that it is just a natural occurence called changing of the guard. It happens in every sport.Lets face it,Rossi is still damn good and still might win another title or two,but he is on the downside of his career.Someone was going to come along and take his crown, and that someone is Casey.I understand if it wasnt your choice of riders that finaly did it,but it is what it is.It was sad to see Michael Jordan lose the edge that made him the best that ever lived, but it happened.I used to be a Rossi worshipper but soured on him when he not so covertly pushed Dorna against the wall to force a change that would get him back on top.He uses his minions like mindless robots by throwing out suggestions to the media on what would make the sport better, meaning, what would get him back on top.The minion then says it over and over till it becomes the truth and then they have Dorna's ear because they start seeing $ signs. Its the ultimate manipulation on Rossi's part and that is why i no longer follow the cult,i broke away.I am not a Ducati fan,i am actually a Ducati dissenter in WSB because i thiught they pulled the same .... Rossi pulled in getting what they want.Im not a Casey Stoner fan per se,but i have no problem with what he is doing. He is the best right now and i will give his due.I could care less how flambouyant he is,thats not why i watch. And yes it is Possible, that Casey is that much faster than Rossi on a given track or a given weekend.

This was for mstar, not you djm

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (michaelm @ Jul 19 2008, 08:27 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I was being facetious in saying about bikes being remotely controlled from the pits as I assumed everyone would realise, and even then I said it was the logical endpoint, not that it was occurring. Apart from anything else it is my understanding that current gps is not sufficiently accurate, or at least if it is it is not accessible to civilians.

I stand to be corrected by the many with more technical knowledge than me, but I can't see why they can't do a run, acquire data, and then change the engine mapping to suit a particular corner. I am certainly a luddite where computers are concerned and perhaps I am in general if I would rather the rider has to determine where he is on the track and decide on the throttle input each time around.

(EDIT)
I agree that people seem less concerned when yamaha appeared to have an advantage earlier this year, but this is fairly understandable given human nature and the relative number of stoner and rossi fans in the world. I still think it is legitimate to question the direction of the sport and that this can be done without denigrating stoner or rossi.

Well current gps available to civilians would be plenty accurate to indicate what corner a bike would be on for mapping. It could probably steer the bike where it needs to go. Right now for farming, the gps steering for tractors will get things within about an inch pass to pass.

Try using stats rather spouting your opinion as fact

2005 250cc Pedrossa 8 wins Stoner 5 wins.
They're the stats.
Casey also had 2 DNF's & a close 2nd to Pedrossa
Hardly wiping the floor.

Rossi had 11 wins in the top class in 2005
Thats wiping the floor

2007 Stoner 10 wins Pedrossa 2 wins
Thats wiping the floor.

+ Casey's bike (250's) cost about as much as my garage door opener

Dani stole the personality from my garage door opener and is parading it around everyday. Give me my garage door openers soul back you gormless midget!

(Just joking, I sort of like Dani and his flowerpot men stuff)

FP3 has begun!

The weather satellite shows typical AM fog, so track temps will be fairly cool. Since the fog is usually gone by race time, the morning sessions probably concentrate on chassis and handling, leaving hard-core tire testing for FP2 and Q.

After nearly 20 minutes, Stoner has finally bothered to get on the bike... and goes to P1 on his 2nd flying lap.
<

Rossi and Vermin next with low 23's.

Stoner now 22.4

Ginters, Haystack, and Marco 4th ~ 6th.

Loris, Ben, and Tony follow, all in the 1:23 zone.

Gorgeous Jorge, Collin, and RDP low 24s

Vermin 22.8! Takes 2nd from Vale.

rossi, vermeulen, and guintoli topping the charts in FP3, all slowly chipping away at their times after about 10 laps and trying to get into the 1'22"s. then stoner pulls out of the garage and is in the 1'22"s after his first lap. amazing stuff.

pedrosa is nowhere to be seen.
