So I'll be attending my first GP this year and I had a question for those who have been previously. Is it worth it to just get general admission tickets to watch the race or should i spend the money on tickets at the first turn or some other spot on the track? Any input would be great, thanks.

I havent missed a race in 10+ years. I've attended every which way, VIP to general admin. My advice, get general admin & general paddock pass. If u attend fri & sat, u can sit in stands anywhere. Nobody will say anything. U'll want to see race from hill. Enjoy freedom of walking around.

I think I may just attend saturday and sunday. What benefit is the paddock pass, do you get a time in the morning where you can mosey around there and check things out?

Also where is the hill located at the track just out of curiosity, didn't see GA spots on the map at the gp site

Paddock pass gives u access to AMA pits and the back of MotoGP garages. Lots to see.

Watch the race from the HILL^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

No doubt about that being the best place.  Great view of all things Laguna from up there!

ha! love it.

so you've done the different vip tents?  the turn 3 and 4 ones?  are they worth it?

how the heck do you get into the pit row suites for motogp?  gotta know sombody I guess.

I got spoiled and last visit to Laguna got a deal on pit row suite tickets for WSBK and it is the life!

I dont think the VIP tents are worth it. U'll sit at one corner, big deal. U get food and drinks Saturday & Sunday, but u wont get $400-500 worth (given my pay-grade at least). If ur rich, then sure, its worth it as the $400-500 wont mean .... to u. But the riders never go up to the tents. U do get a TV. But for $25 u can sit at stands in turn 4 and get the big screen. Never done the pit row VIP, but have sat in hospitality tents across from pit lane, which was cool. It depends on ur price range and ur sensibilities. I did VIP suite at Indy (thats were i met Levi) and there is no other way i would see a race there, as u get awesome garage/real paddock access. But never done it at Laguna as price range was out of my limit. But i imagine its cool if u can drop $1200. Though i've seen the VIP Village people hanging out, and honestly for me it didnt look worth it as they are confined to the 2nd level above the garages, which means they dont really get to mingle with the riders unless the riders themselves go up top. Im sure there is some special time where they can do a pit walk or someshit where they get limited access without fighting with the common folk. If ur a rich ... pansy, then u might like it. Otherwise, GA, see race from hill, and make a bunch of friends all admiring the racing.

Oh man I'm so close to booking this trip.  Looks like some Hotels in Pacific Grove are still fairly reasonable.  Any recommendations for Pacific Grove Hotels?

Yes...but I can't remember what it was called which isn't I concede much use. It was one of the Victorian style hotels. Just tried an online search and I can't find it but if I was there, I could drive to it straight away....(so you'll have to fly me out to meet you there). It was a small family run business and had chalets around the back of the main house. Stayed there in 2006.

Pacific Grove is a beautiful place to stay, very quiet and a much better option than Monterey itself, Seaside or Salinas. Plus, you're seconds away from pebble beach and on the 17 mile drive. Actually, I'm amazed there are still vacancies in Pacific Grove at this late stage.

I think it's the Centrella Inn you're speaking of.  A bit more that what I'm looking to spend.  But there are some other close by at under $200 per night.

Going to try to save a few $$$ via priceline.

It does look like Pacific Grove is the place to go. Thanks for making this decision a no brainer.

BOOKED!!! Staying at the Sea Breeze Inn in Pacific Grove. Saved $130 going thru priceline.

See you fellas in California!

I found that and thought it might be...but if so it has changed its name, changed hands and had a major facelift. I stayed in a chalet around the back. It looks familiar but the front of the building looked totally different. I should look on the emap. Pleased to hear you've got this sorted.
