Did anyone else see Ben Spies there? I was hanging around at the back of the paddock after qualifying and saw Ben following Colin around. Maybe talking to the Tech 3 guys?

They reported on one of the broadcasts that he was there. I'm almost sure they said it during the AMA race.

Interesting, I didn't hear or see him either. I will rewatch all the races and listen for a reference to him. (It would have been cool if he made a appearance, after-all Laguna is the seen of one his his best title wins.)

It was a one liner from Greg Wood I believe, nothing else but that Spies was there checking out the action.

Press Release: For Immediate Release

Great Results for Slednecks Rider Josh Galster, Recently Returned from Injury

July 5th 2009-Monterey, California-Slednecks Racer Josh Galster enjoyed great results in the 7th round of the AMA Daytona Sportbike Class held at the famed Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway.

This was Galster’s first official AMA national race after a lengthy recovery from a life-threatening crash that occurred 10 months ago at Road Atlanta. There, Galster broke the C2 vertebra in his neck and badly damaged his wrist and hand.

After extensive wrist/hand surgery, wearing a halo and then a hard brace to heal his broken neck, and with intense physical therapy to improve the mobility in his wrist, Galster was given the go ahead to begin riding and racing again.

Returning to coaching at the California Superbike School gave Galster some time to get back the feel of riding, and after working a series of schools at Miller Motorsports Park, he drove his van and trailer up to Laguna Seca for the 4th of July AMA/Moto GP Race weekend.

During the Friday’s afternoon practice, Galster took his time getting the 2007 Kawasaki ZX6 up to race pace while working with Mike Pesicka and Ryan Spencer to set up for the challenging Laguna Seca circuit. After an hour-long practice session he was running a 1:35.797 and was gaining confidence.

Saturday’s late morning practice gave the team time to make some adjustments to the front end of the bike. Come qualifying, Galster was disappointed with a 31st finish with a time of 1:33.955. He was set to start on the outside of the 16th row for the side-by-side rolling start.

Throughout the cool, foggy Sunday morning practice, Galster was not able to improve on his qualifying time but did make a few changes to his riding and was ready to step things up during the race.

The race began and as Galster was settling into a rhythm, a red flag appeared with 12 laps remaining in the 23 lap race, the result of a multi-bike collision in the corkscrew. The race resumed after a long clean up and Galster continued to dice it up with a few riders he had been racing against earlier. Galster moved up several places from his qualifying position and with the laps counting down tried to make a pass into 21st but was unable to make it stick.

He finished 22nd with a best time of 1:33.641, a successful finish for his first race back after such a devastating crash. Galster looks forward to the remainder of the season and would like to thank Ryan Spencer, the Presting family, the Luciano family, and Mike Pesicka, as well as Slednecks, EDR Performance, California Superbike School, Bazzaz Performance, Arai, LeoVince, Lockhart Phillips, and all his family, friends, and fans.
