BTW - there being so many guys here with encyclopedic recall of stats
(and good use of Google) - I'd be curious to know if anybody knows
what circuit has produced either the most crashes per season or the
most injuries; ie which is the most dangerous track. I'd bet even money the
riders themselves have some kind of consensus on this.
Funnily enough, Toby and Julian mentioned during Friday qualifying that when GP came back to Laguna in '05, Colin commented that even post modifications, there are certain corners where you simply still cannot afford to crash. They then went on to mention Opitija in Yugoslavia, which was lined by cliffs, with a few straw bales on the edge. The only way to safely ride this circuit was at 70%. It claimed the life of Michel Rougerie amongst others.
Currently, I would say that Laguna is probably the most dangerous on the GP calendar - unless you choose to race at the brickyard in a near hurricane.
