not sure how much truth there is in this story as its an MCN article but a few sites are putting out the news.
i hope its true... more bikes on the grid can only be a good thing.

story:

American legend Kevin Schwantz could be the figurehead of a new Suzuki MotoGP team planned to debut in 2011, MCN can reveal.

The Texan, who has been linked previously with a management role at Suzuki’s factory squad, is part of an ambitious project to run GSV-R engines in a Japanese built chassis.

Currently at the planning stage, the project is being masterminded by JiR – Japan Italy Racing - boss Gianluca Montiron, who ran Camel and Konica Minolta Honda satellite teams in MotoGP before leaving at the end of last season.

Montiron confirmed he had been in Japan recently for several meetings with senior Suzuki management and he’d also met potential investors too.

The plan would see Montiron and Schwantz lease Suzuki motors using an independent chassis supplier. Montiron met Moriwaki management during his recent Japan visit about a possible collaboration.

The plan is to race in 2011 when manufacturers will make engines or complete machines available for lease at cheaper prices in an effort to halt an alarming decline in grid numbers.

Montiron told MCN: “I am looking at MotoGP in 2011. The plan is to work with Kevin to have something different, a unique project.

"We would both like to do something together so this is all under discussion. The Suzuki project is under consideration and I would like to find a way to come back to MotoGP.

"I had a meeting with Suzuki top management in Japan and also the same advertising agency that I worked with when I had Konica Minolta as a sponsor.”

Schwantz is also part of the JiR Moto2 project being put together by Montiron. Mattia Pasini is hotly tipped to be one rider.

And with the American influence of Schwantz, 2008 Red Bull Rookies champion JD Beach is also close to a deal, MCN understands.

I'll believe the bit about Suzi motors in the chassis when I see it. Good to see Schwantz finally getting involved in the GP paddock at a management level. Admittedly, I haven't seen Beach ride so I'm not sure if he's the Yank I want leading the charge in Moto2. But it's great that American riders have an "in" in the paddock.

I don't know but Kevin Schwantz doesn't strike me as the sharpest tool in the shed and Suzuki is looking for his services in management? No wonder Suzuki blows.

Couldn't be any worse than Paul Denning. And Denning's managing the factory team. You do the math.

Glad to hear about expansion plans, but Suzuki really needs some privateer teams to beat up on. I don't see any reason for Suzuki to add even more backmarkers.

I don't get the Swantz thing either. What has he run as far as a race team before? Suzuki can barely run 2 bikes now so I doubt the satellite story.

Interested to read in MCN today the following quote from Paul Denning "Suzuki doesn't have a history of buckling over and giving up. I don't think one bad season would be enough to make the decision clear either way about the future. Suzuki sees GP racing as important" -One bad season?????!!!

Anyway, back to o.p. To consider Kevin Schwantz an equal rider to Rainey, Doohan and Lawson is to overrate him. His entertainment value, popularity and legendary status can be compared (and is arguably superior) to those he rode against, but he achieved significantly less on the track.

Your old signature was slightly more indelible than you would have liked Tommy.

Where did it go anyway?

doesn't he run the redbull rookies ? i think he knows enough about the racing game to put that team on the right track.

after the comments from denning in sepang, anybody, even darth puig but maybe not d'antin would be an improvement on what is currently there. suzuki managed a 6th in spite of the gsv-r, not because of it. i am deeply ...... off by the .... that is coming out of the rizla garage at the moment.
how am i supposed to be a fan when the results and same old ....-ups keep happening over and over again.
give denning the bullet and install KS.absolute worst case scenario, it stays the same. best case, suzuki gets with the program and starts building competitive machinery.

will the moto gods hear my cry?

I hear you BigAl.
What's the point in having someone like Schwantz in the leading role if the big bosses don't listen?
For ..... sake Suzuki, get your act together. You aren't stupid!

Exactly. To blame Denning is missing the point the factory is to blame. He can only make good .... sandwiches.

Reports from Europe that have former World Champion Kevin Schwantz running a Suzuki satellite team in 2011 are news to Schwantz.

"I haven't heard anything about a satellite team in 2011," Schwantz said today from his home in Austin, Texas. "We know how hard Suzuki is struggling to have a factory team much less a satellite team - so that would be my only take on that."
