Apparently this is old news but I just found out.

Josh Brookes, 2005 Australian Superbike AND Supersport champion, who finished 6th at the Suzuka 8 hour last year, and 2004 Phillip Island wildcard World Supersport race winner, has signed with Team Caracchi NCR to ride a 749R in the WSS championship next year.

Even though he only won the Superbike championship on a countback of wins, I belive this kid's got talent. He was storming his was to dual Superbike/Supersport crowns in 2004 when his campaign was halted by serious injury. He was forced to learn how to do wheelies in his wheelchair while his team mate took both titles.

Anyway, I'm sure all the Aussies wil agree it's good to finally see Brookesy on the international scene. The 749R will be a challenge given he's been on CBRs for years now and how tyre development in WSS definately favours jap fours. But this could be a stepping stone to a competitive 999R in a couple of years time, if he manages to prove himself.

I've heard loads of good things about Brookes from you Aussies so hopefully he can perform well. Last up and coming Aussie rider I heard loads of good things about was Broc Parkes... Here's hoping for better luck.

IMO Brookes is better than Parkes. A lot better. But Parkes ha WSS experience and a brand new race bred R6 for 2006. And Brookesy's got a 749, which ain't the best bike to be on in Supersport.
In Aus SBK last year he was teamed with Adam Fergusson, who won dual titles in 2004. I think Krusty (Fergusson) did time in AMA, Ooost. FX in 2003 if memory serves me correctly.

Yeah Crusty did some riding over here for the Corona Suzuki team I believe in FX and Superstock. He looked pretty good and there was some talk of him getting some satellite rides in the US but then he returned down under.

Kath you have been preachin' Brookes to me for some time now and I'm buying into it. If he rides as well as you say he does he should be replacing Troy Bayliss on the Factory Ducati 999R in a few years.

Sorry to say it richo but replacing is the right word. Lorenzo Lanzi is the future of Ducati whether it is in SBK or MotoGP and Troy is getting up there in years. He will turn 37 in March so I have a hard time believing he will ride for the factory Ducati team past 39. Two seasons from now, should Brookes achieve the results expected of him, Brookes will be ready for the step up to SBK and could be the next factory Ducati WSB rider.

Yeah I know, Ooost. That's the facts of it, but I love Bayliss, and what do you do when your favourite rider calls it quits? Do you get a new one or what? It's never happened to me before.

I know what you mean richo, I have come to really enjoy Bayliss. I think you have to go out and get a new one, I'll be shopping for another favorite rider in a couple years when BBoz calls it quits. I'm dreading the day.

I could go back to Sete I guess... But I'm really into Bayliss now. I think I'll wait and see. There's plenty of options out there. Maybe even this new kid Brookes if he can prove himself

Go Brookes!!!

Sete? Oh no richo, you're just setting yourself up to be disappointed and Gibbers is going to be hanging them up only a few years after Troy Boy. You've got to look young. Pedrosa is a good one to latch on to, Brookes, as you said, Vermeulen or Stoner if you like cheering for someone of your nationality or Ben's personal favorite Marco Melandri. There are plenty of good riders to choose from. Good luck finding the one that's right for you.

Yep, thought about it. I'm goin with Chris Vermulen. (once Bayiss retires, that is.) I know he ain't too popular on this site but at the end of last year he was so close to Corser he almost had his head up Troy's arse. IMO he could've taken the championship easily if Ten Kate was as well prepared as Alistare Suzuki. They had a lot of setbacks.
CV's now no. 2 on my list.

And I was meaning to ask you Ooost, what are the restrictions on FX bikes? We've got our own FX series here and I saw a round on TV once, there was everything from Yamaha FZ1s to Honda CBR600RRs racing. Couldn't work it out

I like CV, he's a good kid.

FX over here is any 600cc four cylinder, 750cc Ducati twin or 1200cc Buell twin. After that it is anything goes, any modification you can make is legal while remaining under engine capacity. Just as Superbike.

Maybe AMA is different, but you can't just mod aything on a SBK. They got all these ........ rules that stop em turning stock bikes into GP types

Oh no I didn't mean like ANYTHING you want. I meant like anything you want as far as Superbike goes, bigger brakes, fuel mapping, ignition data, race tires, suspension mods, things like that. Sorry for the confusion.

SBK is quite limited, that's why it's affordable.

Buell 1200

?

Can you actually race an HD engine?

yea they call em tractor races!

Come on. Now I'd be onee of the first to bag HD, and while I love Buells, I've seen 'em race and they suck. But the HD engine makes an good base for an absolute monster of a drag motor. We had an 800hp one down here, running 6 second passes. and all our stuff comes second hand from the States
Yeah HD sucks, but that engine does have potential if you put a lot of time and money into it. It's not a complete write off as an engineering failure
