1. I reported this back in November (http://www.powerslide.net/forum/Jamie-Hack...saki-t6038.html)

2. I now feel might smug that my source was right, and antfan & the other doubters are wrong

3. This guy is from my home town of Oswaldtwistle - a small 10,000 pop town - how good is that!

Ben is hoping he shows better than Miguel "Man this is hard, lets quit motogp" DuHammel or he's gonna get a ton of .... back!!

AMA Superbike star, Jamie Hacking, will make his MotoGP debut in this year's USGP at Laguna Seca, after being drafted into the Kawasaki Racing Team as a temporary replacement for the injured John Hopkins.

A three-time AMA champion, Hacking has racked up six podium finishes already in this year's ultra-competitive AMA Superbike championship, making him the ideal choice to stand in for Hopkins while the Anglo-American recovers from the injuries sustained in a high-speed qualifying crash ahead of the Dutch TT at Assen.

Although a US citizen now, 37-year-old Hacking was born in the Lancashire mill town of Oswaldtwistle in the North of England and only moved to the United States at the age of nine years, when his father secured a job in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

And it was in America that 'the Hacker' got serious about racing, contesting junior motocross events all over the South-Eastern United States and winning almost every race he entered. In 1994 Hacking made the switch to road racing aboard a Kawasaki ZX-7R and made an instant impression by crashing out of his first race!

Hacking made his AMA debut in 1997, again aboard a Kawasaki, and took pole position in his very first Supersport qualifying session. In 1998 he secured the AMA Rookie of the Year award and in 2003 he won the first of two AMA Supersport titles, the second coming in 2006 when he was also crowned AMA Superstock champion.

A move to Kawasaki in 2007 brought two Supersport race wins aboard the ZX-6R as well as five Superbike podium finishes. This season Hacking has focussed solely on the Superbike class and, with six podium finishes to his name so far this season, currently lies fourth in the championship standings.

The highly experienced AMA Superbike rider broke the lap record during two days of testing at Autopolis this week, aboard the Ninja ZX-RR machine he will race at Laguna. As a result, he heads for the USGP determined to match, or even exceed, the performance of his Kawasaki teammate, Roger Lee Hayden, who brought the Ninja ZX-RR home in an impressive tenth place in last year's race.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>JAMIE HACKING
"I'm really excited about riding Kawasaki's Ninja ZX-RR in the USGP at Laguna Seca. We've just completed two days of testing with the bike in Japan, and I felt pretty comfortable straight away. It's an amazing machine.

I can't believe how sophisticated the electronics package is on the bike; already it feels like you can open the gas impossibly early out of the turns, but the data shows that it's actually possible to open the throttle even earlier.

To do this requires some confidence in the electronics, and that confidence will only come with more track time on the bike. Roger Lee set the benchmark at this race last year with an outstanding tenth place finish, so that's certainly given me something to aim for. Laguna is one of my best tracks, but I'm under no illusions how hard it's going to be.

I'll be up against some of the best riders in the world on a bike on which I've only had limited testing time. If I come away from the weekend with a top ten finish, then I'll be happy."

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>MICHAEL BARTHOLEMY

"Given his results in this year's AMA Superbike championship, Jamie was the obvious choice for Kawasaki when the factory started looking for a temporary replacement for John Hopkins.

We are looking forward to seeing what he can do on our bike at Laguna Seca, especially after he broke the lap record at Kawasaki's Autopolis circuit in Japan during two days of testing on the Ninja ZX-RR this week. One big advantage that Jamie has is that he knows the track extremely well, and I think that will count in his favour, as it will allow him to focus completely on the bike during the race weekend.

Roger Lee set a hard target last year by finishing as the first American across the line in tenth place, but I'm sure that Jamie is heading to the USGP determined to do even better! I'm sure that he will do a good job for us at Laguna."

I'm actually stoked to see this. I think Hacking is a hard nosed rider in general and will adapt well on a GP bike. What will be interesting is to see how he stacks up against Ben (Spies) on relatively similar machinery.

this is great. really glad that hacking is getting a shot at riding a motogp bike. he has definitely done a awesome job this year on the zx10r. the only person i've seen in awhile that actually battled with ben and matt.

Nicely done Ben.

It should be really exciting to see where Hacking and Spies finish in relation to one another. I think that Hacking could really be a championship contender if aboard the Suzuki as he's been the only one to come close to Spies and Mladin. Now he's got a chance to race head to head with Spies on bikes that are nearly equally far from the front.

This is pretty much a nail in the coffin of anyone that thinks the traction control isn't helping GP riders.

37 y old????????????

Anyway good luck to him, he's gonna need it to tame that green beast.

Ben kudos for your insider info! btw your town has a funny name!

I'm not a big fan of Hacking's; mainly because he's always talking down to Herrin.

However, I'm really happy to learn there will be another AMA racer present in MotoGP this season. I'd prefer for it to be a Hayden
<
but Robertino took care of that, didn't he?

Anyways, good luck to Hacking. He is a hard racer, I hope the Kwak doesn't get him, too.

Baby Hayden said the same thing last year, only he wasn't so polite about it.

His quotes about electronics were surfacing about the same time as the reports that Motogp mechanics were present for the AMA test sessions because they were "entertained" by watching the AMA superbikers wrestle machines with little electronic gadgetry.

I hate Ezy so much right now.

Yeah my friend knows his dad & Jamie - hoping he gets a full time GP ride so we can wangle some tickets

Anyway, how the hell are you bud? First Ooost back in town, now you..............old skool are coming back!

Good to see heacker getting the nod to race. I was more excited to see RLH get the seat though since his chances of actually riding for a team is muchg greater than hacker. Hopper for a Hacker.

Really!

It wasnt bad, just sick of reading pointless .... that doesnt contribute to threads or discussions.

Maybe we should have a "your post is so .... its not worthy to be here" award each month?

i hope he does well but i must admit im thinking 37yrs old coming into gp is a surprise but there's experience over youth that quite often prevails.

Okay, so where do I click to see all the CRAP that was 'edited out' by Mr. Admin Ben??
<
From time to time, I find Pinky's ramblings entertaining...

Hats off to Hacking!! Just don't bin it, man!! The Hacker has a tendency to throw a bike down the road when he gets too excited, looking for the limits. I think most of his falls (from memory, not 100% sure...) are usually mid-corner, just getting in a tad too hot on the brakes...

On the plus side, his 600 experience will help with corner speed.....and, his superbike experience will be an added benefit with the complexity of bike/suspension setup. Man, I hope he rocks the house! I will be rooting for him.....and, Spies, of course
<
and The Kentucky Kid.....oh, yeah-- GO!!!!!! Colin!!

Agreed, experience often prevails over age. How old was Bayliss afterall when he won at Valencia. He could do just as well as any young gun brought up from the 250 class. Well meaning, finishing around 16th behind West.
<
But best of luck to him, he has been one of a few guys that can keep pace with Spies and Mladin this year in the AMA.

As long as he beats West, I aint bothered.

Where is Antfan anyway?

Anfan probably changed his name to "stonerfan", "rossifan" or some other variable after realizing he wasn't cut out for Moto GP.
