Mainly MotoGP.. but also other formsof motorsport if they can improve the racing?

To me theres nothing more pure than man and machine working in unison.. and quite frankly.. there isn't anything much more exciting than a MotoGP lastlap duel..

Could you see motorsport rivalling football in the near future, if the right folk are put in charge?

Discuss..

sadly no
<

the masses have spoken.

we are forever fans of a 'minority sport'

(at least we are in the uk)

It's an interesting thought I'll give you that. Could it rival football? No I doubt it, and I'm not a footie fan.

But, if you consider the crowds, for what 17 meetings a year compared to goodness knows how many football matches. There is no question that it is seriously popular and the fans are passionate about a sport that has the closest racing in motorsport IMO. (Think I've just stated the bleeding obvious!!)

I agree with baldylocks, it's still a minority sport and I'm not sure what will change that
<

No way. In comparison to other sports, the total popularity of motorsport (MotoGP and Fnone) is relatively insignificant. Sports like soccer and baseball have massive followings in thier respective areas of the world. Part of the reason for this is because you can play soccer anywhere in the world. All you need is flat ground and a ball. People play it from when theyre very young and grow up with it. Motorsport will never be the same. It starts at an older age, it costs a hell of a lot more, you can only do it at a racetrack and you can only do it at specific times. It will always be a minority sport

let it be known....I live in the US...at least you UK, Aussie's and such don't have to deal with ...... NASCAR.....makes me wanna slam my wang in a window...
<

^true, we don't have to deal with NASCAR but we have to deal with AFL ... that game is just as pointless as going around a track in circles.

well maybe you can explain the point of it! ... it seems to me that they just run around a CRICKET field with a red ball and kick it at two pairs of posts ... and if you dont get it right in the middle ...OH well just give you an extra point coz you ALMOST got it in .... ????
<

even rugby league makes more sense than that!

its a cricket field because it was invented about 100 years ago by Victorian cricketers who wanted to keep fit during the winter so they'd be even better at kicking British ... during the cricket season. It is a bit complicated, but I suppose when you grow up with it it makes sense. It actually takes a lot of strength AND grace, not like Rugby where you just paint apes different colours and give them a ball so they can charge like bulls at the other end of the field because they can see a banana at the goal posts.

The only reason I wish this sport were bigger has to be the availabilty of seeing it in person, or free on the tube.

I sorta like the idea of usally being the only person at a gathering who rides and loves all(exp.choppers) motorbikes.

So, now if you wanted to kill our sport, you reinvent the motorcycle by making it as huge as a bus(for all the stickers for Tide, M&M's, XBox,$$$$) still with a rider that sits on top, and let the crashes begin! It would knock out Nascar, and all other motorsports.

If Moto GP started to seriously gain US fans, NASCAR would try thier best to curb Moto GP's growth. The France family is a crooked, mean-spirited bunch who try to gut other forms of racing just as much as grow their own.

The American Le mans Series was growing and full of promise from 2000-2002. However, in 2003 the Frances started to invest heavily in the Grand-American sports car series. They hand out sponsors, they lure teams over, they spread BS hyperbole about how Grand-Am is the greatest road racing series on the planet, etc. The cars are ugly and slow so the series can siphon teams away from the ALMS, but can't be a desirable product itself. The ALMS is a sad shadow of what it briefly was. The Frances want to kill sportscar racing, not grow it.

NASCAR wants to enter the Canadian market, so you know what they did? They buddied up with Circuit Gilles Villeneuve promoter Norman Legault. Champ Car had the 2nd race weekend at the circuit. Last year Legault took down grandstands so he could say that ticket sales for the champ car race were down. This year was Champ Car's last race at Montreal. The stock car mafia has taken over.

Champ Car driver AJ Almendinger has announced his move to NASCAR. This is purely a strategic move for the France mafia. AJ was an asset to Champ Car (an American that could win races) and NASCAR wanted him out of there.

NASCAR is a cancer on racing and it just might kill real car racing in the states. Thsi is part of the reason for my conversion to 2-wheels. Car racing in my home country is looking pretty sad. Hell, Grand-Am is now sanctioning a motorcycle series......

The NASCAR thugs would be terrified of Moto GP because it makes their circus look silly. Genuine characters like Valentino, Kenny, Colin, etc. wrestling 250hp bikes around road courses would really show the circle track taxi cab drivers for the frauds that they are. Ugly, slow stock cars spending half of a 500-mile race behind a safety car pales in comparison to Moto GP; any non-initiated viewer could see that. NASCAR is a disease and I hope and pray that it doesn't somehow spread across the pond.

i think nascar would get laughed at in the uk.
im happy with motogp the way it is. if it got to popular tickets would be to expensive and all the nob heads would get involved inposing stupid rules on a sport they now nothing about.

HEY, i like rugby, i think that if, people want to go and feel a bit like acient time warriors, they should, it's all about letting your instincts go.

Football (not american
<
) is simply the best sport, becouse, it has everything, and i think that next to basketball (that i don't like) is one of the most complete sports.

like my buddy (i hope) Richo said, it can't reach the level do to acessibility, if everyone had a bike, maybe it could.

I have never understood cricket.

The nascar thing, I have always liked it, but only becouse of the craches, how hard can it be to turn left for a hole year ?, it gets complicated do to the fact that thera ara a hole binch of people doing it, so they do find the best way to do it, but other than that it's just a bunch of overpowered cars confined to a small place, to see how they crash

The thing is that AMERICANS (only north americans, or USA people, heck, i'm american, south American, I'm switching to "Staters") like to show HOW BIG they are, and they do everything in that manner, for example the video games

why do sport games have Arcade mode???

so, i conclude that Staters prefer going big than showing ability, even thou you do need ability to go as big as you can, i guess thats there ability.

I am not anti-stater it's just that no body likes a show off

I extend an apoligy to all those that could feel offended about this coment
