So those of you on here that went to Indy last year, what would you recommend for tickets? How was it getting in and out of the venue? Did you camp on the grounds or find a hotel close by? Just trying to start the planning for this year.

Thanks,
Grady

Hey.
I have gone to indy the last two years. My first year was right at the bricks. - not a good place to watch, all you can see is the straight.. I think the best is turn one. I have reserved tickets on the very back row at turn one, way up high. The guy sitting next to me last year goes to many F1 races and he says these are the best seats in the place. you can see six or seven corners. I haul my bike up there and camp across the street from the track. the weather(temp) is good for camping.
i'm going it mugello this year and will not be going to indy (i renewed my tickets so i wouldn't lose them- they're mine til i don't renew). if you want my stadium seating tickets let me know, maybe we can work something out. they are great if you want to see a lot of the race. not so much if you want to be right up on the action and see them zinging by for a split second.
i think i have some photos taken from my seats (2 seats) if you want to see what the view is like.
going to and from the track is pretty well organized. not too bad. even on race day. if you're planning on all three days, consider camping. showers are expensive, but if you're not bashful there's a shower on the race grounds by the merch stations.
lemme know!
good luck
steve

Last year a bunch of us lucked out and got into the VIP suite.
I have been in constant communication with the person and she is willing on saving one VIP suite for fans.

See Jumkie indy social experiment thread

As for Accommodation,
The Omni is downtown where the party is and where Dorna and Riders stay.

Like steeeeeve said either into the first turn, or the last. You can see quite a ways into the infield from either of those spots. All tickets include g.a. so throughout the weekend you can pretty much watch from anywhere and figure out where you want to watch from. ...., the trees in the infield on the golf course in a smokie haze isn't a bad option either. Or as shovel said VIP suite is the best, you can see everything!

Shovel or Jumkie, please let me know when we can buy those tickets. I may just pay for one this year.

VIP if u can afford it. U see about 75% of track (front and back). Plus vid inside suite. And most importantly, u get paddock access! They are reasonable price (though not set yet but less than 500 for 3 days). I hav the owner on my speed dial & Christmas list. Scratch & save my friend.

Looks like these are located at the start of Turn 2 on the big oval? Seemed like a good vantage point. What did you think?

We sat in H Stand, which is the last stand out of Turn 4, coming into the front stretch. Had a great view of Turns 10-16 and a decent chunk of the front stretch.

Here are some pics-

I think I'd do these seats again, but wouldn't mind seeing some shots of the view from Turn 1. Anyone have any?

VIP Suite sounds great, but not sure about paying that much. Where is it located? Looks like somewhere around the end of the infield stands on the Turn 3 end. Is that right? Are there views from both sides- back straight and front?

We were in the second box from the end, straight across from your pic. we could go out the back door and see the whole infield, t.v. coerage inside, and the front straight out front. the tickets include paddock passes, they are well worth the money.

Sounds pretty sweet. I'll have to consider it.

Thanks for the info.
