Well now I think we can confidently add Spies to alien status. First yamaha home; what an achievement! Although not yet having a world championship like Hayden, he has achieved much more than Edwards and Hayden achieved in their rookie years, and shows much more potential than both. Five liens for a few years, then back to four when Rossi retires. Lorenzo/Spies, Pedrosa/ Stoner......................fascinating team rivalries to come. Who will dominate?

Oh Casey, not another crash. I still believe that you have the skills to win again, but that lingering doubt starts to grow.................

We all want minimal or no electronics, but apparently a spec ecu is impossible with different engine specuifications. Perhaps more limited engine specs is a neceassary sacrifice to get rid of traction control. There is no doubt that the current path of motogp is ruining it as a spectacle. If the fans are unhappy and stop watching, then the raison d'etre is gone. The 2012 season is a golden opportunity to cure the malaise. Surely dorna can see that moto2 is a template for how motogp can be. The manufacturers need to be convinced that the change is necessary for the sports survival. No dicing, no audience. Surely they can see that?!

I'm not too sure the m1 needs too much praise after last weekend.....3 crashes for rossi, a record. Jorge wasn't too happy with it either saying it was like riding a 250 down the straights. And Colin couldn't get either tyre to work on it

Indys a rubbish circuit, so conclusions shouldn't really be drawn, I'd be happy to see Portimao or Turkey on the calender instead....

Jorge is full of ...., his bike was the fastest behind the Honda's, and only by a microscopic hair . His factory Yamaha was way faster than the guy that beat him by 3 seconds on a customer bike. Spies bike was the second slowest in the field, only beating, you guessed it, his team mate. Even the Suzuki was faster. If Spies had Lorenzos motor, he wins the race.

What were the top speeds this weekend ? I presume you know after saying jorge is full of .... !

Control tire is good, it needs some more fine tuning but the concept is sound. It does not really matter who the supplier is.

What is still sorely missing is the ban of electronic aids. It should be announced now to allow manufacturers to design accordingly for 2012.

2011 I'm afraid will have to be the same as now.

Hurry up Ezpeleta!

+1 agree, that would also cut running cost down by quite a bit I should think. It would certainly help Suzuki out.

He has demonstrated it in GP this year as well.

I had no intention of demeaning spies. According to a recent post (?by pigeon) mick doohan rates him a good chance of winning the 2011 title.

He certainly gets faster towards the end of races, and I would definitely ascribe this to him being really good. It would rather defeat my argument that the tyre doesn't wear out to agree that it is due to him riding well on worn tyres though, in motogp anyway; I tend to think he methodically tests the limits of the bike, conditions and track (with many of which he is unfamiliar) and adjusts accordingly. It will be interesting to see whether jorge wants to have dual number one riders next year.

Dani and Dovi both did identical 194.489 as their top speed for the race.

Jorge's top speed for the race was 194.178

Spies top speed for the race was 190.512

Jorges average top speed for the race, was better than Spies best top speed.

So if anyone should be bitching about their front straight speed, it should be Spies. I think , to me anyway, that this shows Spies is not on a full factory spec M1 at the moment

Not really, theres loads of things that could account for a 4 mph difference, like rider weight, gearing what lines there taking prior to entering the straight ect ect. What was Rossi's top speed ?

Rossi's top end speed in the race was 191.817 mph.

See there, even Rossi's electronically sabotaged 600cc M1 with 10 year old forks and cement tires was faster than Spies.

Maybe jorge was simply stonger on the exit into the straight....possibly a stronger sector in practise? Which would mean he could hit a slightly higher top end before hitting the brakes.

That doesnt prove ...., especially taking into account the qualifying times on top of this possibility.
