MotoGP: Dorna eye Imola for second Italian GP
By Visordown News
Could premier class bike racing be coming to one of the world's most famous circuits?

REPORTS IN this morning's Italian press are claiming Dorna are showing more than just an interest in bringing MotoGP to Imola circuit in Italy.

The reports claim FIM's Race Director Paul Butler has visited the circuit as Dorna, MotoGP's governing body, is interested in bringing another premier class race to Italy.

If the bid was successful - and it's something that could be passed within a matter of weeks - Imola could replace the Hungarian GP which was scrapped by the FIM, because of construction delays with the new Balatonring circuit.

Mmm. Interesting stuff: bikes at Imola. Here's hoping...

ty.
got them 2 classics races somewhere on vhs..and some others back to 1999.
liked WSBK 1999 Hockenheim..fast fast track.foggy sealed the title there

Nothing against Imola but that would make 3 gp's in the Italian region and 3 in spain.
Id prefer to have Rio or Welcom back personally.

Man, Imola has been a classic motorcycle GP track since the beginnig. All great aces raced and won there--Agostini, Hailwood, Saarinen, Roberts, Sheene, Spencer... you name them. After Senna died there, the track's security was put under scrutiny and so racing activity virtually stopped, and moto GP moved definitely to Mugello. That was the early '90s.

It is a great, fast, difficult track, a Monza on the hills. I learned everything I know there, Imola is my native town. When we were kids we used to race entry level series there--plus our own informal races at night as well, before the track was sealed... races in which the fastest laps were inevitably clocked with the police in hot pursuit

If Spain hosts three GPs, I do not see why Italy couldn't. There are enough fans in Italy to buy all those tickets. Anyway, if I had to scrap one event, that would surely be Misano, not Imola.

Every motorcycle racing enthusiast should hope they give us back such a classic GP.

Rio would be great, though I'd rather see them return to Spa or Istanbul myself.

They should definitely get rid of one of the Spanish rounds though - 3 races out of 17 is too many.

Took the words out of my mouth brother.

Somewhere in my mother's basement
are old VHS tapes of races there with all the greats.

I was just a bit suprised that Pidgeon seemed to be suggesting it had never seen bikes

But that race is the one I most remember when someone says Imola ....

for international races like motogp and F1?

NONE!

though we do have for the local bike races and asian f3 i think. apart from that, i need to choose between sepang and shanghai as these are the affordable ones for me. japan and australia are just too costly.

sepang - f1 and motogp so all is good

shanghai - f1 only, too bad...

...and to think italy will add another one...i am just wishing for another south east asian GP but maybe that's asking too much, eh?

It might be a "if you build it they will come" scenario. There is no other circuit in SEA is capable of hosting a MotoGP event...

I think its more than a handful and its just a matter of time and economics for it to happen.

compared to the population? it is a handful. well, maybe you won't be able to feel it, but here, you'd have more luck winning on a small time lottery than finding a fellow motorsport fan, unless they're you're relative

Think about India--what are they waiting for? One of the biggest motorcycle industries of the planet, hundreds of millions of potential enthusiasts, even a team racing now in F1, but no tracks and no races...

Tons of cricket though

The voice of reason. 6 GPs within walking distance of eachother. .... that. Rio or Welcom, or bring back Istanbul. How about something in Canada. Are there any world class tracks there?

Bring back Spa with the safety issues sorted.I love this circuit the way its set in the forest, its beautiful.

Why. It is very convenient and cost effective for the riders and teams. Also for the organizers and the fans, since in Europe there are more suitable tracks and more MotoGP fans than in all the rest of the world put together.

You need to sell the tickets, remember. Any abstract idea of geographical distribution will not work and send the circus bankrupt.

The future growth of the sport will be in China and India, when the big manufacturers of those countries finally enter the arena...
