I’ve seen a few different clips of Marquez running to his second bike and continuing to ride - whether after a crash or a malfunction. Why didn’t Rins do the same in Austria last Sunday?

I haven't seen the video, but the only time you can mount a new bike after crashing and making unrideable, your first bike, is during FP or QP.

If you crash in a race, and are unable to restart on the same bike, your race is over.

The clips you saw are probably the free practice, not the race.

Even if you could, which I doubt the rules allow for, by the time you go back to your bike in the pits I would imagine that you'd be dead last.

The back up bike is usually set up for rain just in case. also if you could manage to get back and get on a back up bike that was ready for the conditions, why risk the engine just to finish a few laps down?
