Lets say we could take Michael Schumacher (F1), Sebastian Loeb (WRC), Valentino Rossi (motoGP), and Jeff Gordon (nascar) and put them in to a shifter kart on short road course, all with HYPOTHETICALLY NO PREVIOUS KARTING EXPERIENCE. What do you think the outcome would be?

My vote..

1. Rossi
2. Schumacher
3. Loeb (though i would put him 2 if it were not a road course)

4. Gordon, crashed on first right turn

Loeb would win I reckon, because he would be able to slide the kart better than the others.

Schumi in a close second.

Rossi third as he does have some experience on karts.

Gordon, crashed into a wall. This isn't redneck circle racing

I can't believe I'm about to stick up for a Nascar racer but a few years back Gordon competed in a Race of Nations in (I think) France and performed surprisingly well. I think Colin Edwards also competed as well as some WRC and F1 drivers.

Very entertaining.

you slide a kart, you go slow

I never raced Karts myself, but I always got the impression, that, done at the right moment, sliding could make you faster?

Its like any vehicle...lets say about 10% slippage is fast anything over that though always seems slow to me. I guess i was thinking you were saying sliding and i took that as you were meaning drifting.

REMEMBER HYPOTHETICALLY NO KARTING EXPERIENCE!!!!

Didnt they all race karts when young?...

I'd go with Schumy.......they wouldnt be able to get past his jaw!

Dubya I've just done a very small amount of karting but I 100% agree about the sliding. Anything more than the slightest twitch sideways and you're losing time. I would pick Schumi to win and past that, it's anyone's race. Oh, and I am replacing Gordon with Tony Stewart because he is the most versatile NASCAR driver in the series. But if I have to pick, this is how I see it...

1. Schumacher
2. Stewart
3. Rossi
4. Loeb

But if I have to use Gordon, move everyone up one and place Gordon in fourth.

You seriously think that Tony S could beat Loeb, and Rossi?? I am going to have to totally disagree with you on that one.

1. Loeb
2. Schumacher
3. Gordon
4. Rossi

Since when did Rossi have the experience of driving in cars etc that these guys have? He may be good on a bike but he doesn't have the experience to beat these guys yet.

Rossi beat the world karting champion in his spare team before the 2005 or 2006 season. He's got the speed. And yeah I think Stewart can hang with the boys, the man can honestly drive anything.

You remember Rossi was doing some testing for Ferrari right, and putting up some impressive lap times! Not only that but if you can control the beast of a motoGP bike the way he does, i would assume he can easily transfer that ability over to a machine much easier to handle and 2 more wheels. What's tougher to make go fast an F1 or a motoGP. Im guessing a motogp!
