Budapest - A planned MotoGP racetrack in Hungary was in doubt on Friday when the state-owned Hungarian Development Bank refused to sign a 15.3-billion-forint (79-million-dollar) loan contract with the developers. The bank's communications director Katalin Ory-Kovacs cited "risks exposed in due diligence" when explaining the decision to state news agency MTI.

The planned racetrack, on a site near the popular tourist region around Lake Balaton, had been touted as motorcycle racing's answer to Hungary's famous Hungaroring Formula One racetrack.

The news of the funding block came a day after the head of the Balaton Development Council, Tamas Suchman, resigned his commission to coordinate the 200-million-dollar project.

"I do not want to participate in a project where every kind of accusation has been started, from blackmail to the uncertainty of reco

Why dont they just have Gabor and his 10 million fans to just grab some shovels and some bags of cement. They can have this track done in no time. Could gabby really have anything better to do?

I think he said that over 1 year ago.

Anywho, I hope Hungaroring goes off without a hitch. The track looked really great in its conceptual stages and I can't wait to see what kind of racing it creates.

Looks unlikely at this point, but maybe they can get something worked out.

to be honest i'm actually more excited to see this new aragon circuit. from what i've read it's supposed to be a really good bike track!

at least we won't get jipped out of a round!

I visited there after Valencia last year. It's a fantastic track, and the facilities looked pretty good. It's in the middle of nowhere, though, which could be a problem ...

Well, it's right next to Alcaniz, which is a lovely little town but basically in the middle of nowhere. There's hotel rooms there, but they are unlikely to be enough to house an entire MotoGP crowd.

The track is just about here

ahhh... thats what i thought you meant. so accomadations for the crowds are somewhat lacking not to mention eateries and such. well i hope they got a sizable camp facility. man it does look a little remote from the google map...

There's loads of restaurants and bars in Alcaniz - it's a fairly popular tourist spot for cultural types. Just probably not enough beds for 100K plus MotoGP fans. The circuit is fantastic though, and has a corner modeled on the Corkscrew, with a similar precipitous drop.
