Considering only a handful of guys have won races in the past 10 years or so, he very much deserves his spot. He won against a depleted field in Assen but noone else stepped up that week but him. It stands to reason that if their was an opportunity to win where their usually isnt others could have taken advantage of this confluence of circumstances as well. He has proved that he is able to win races and championships. Noone else in the championship but Jorge has fufilled those 2 qualities.

I find the notion that he doesnt belong to be absurd.

Absurd is the definition of This forums chat about Rossi these days.....

Sorry the forces work against people who want Rossi out of MotoGP, he's still a cash cow for Dorna.

I left out Nicky out of the equation because he never was a consistent race winner although he did win a championship

The real story is: take Rossi out of the races, every race loses 20,000 spectators, and fifty times more TV audience.

So, for now (and maybe a couple fo year still), this is out of question.

Maybe in 3 years if he doesn't win ANY race. But honestly I think it can still hapen - not LIKELY but possible.

Look at the year 2000 lineup of the premier class.

500cc 2-strokes nasty bikes - <span style="font-size:14px;Valentino was already there.

Look at this year's lineup of the premier class.

1000cc 4-strokes cyber-bikes. <span style="font-size:14px;Valentino is still there.

<span style="font-size:14px;He's the only one remaining from those days.

No doubt getting old, no doubt struggling - but still there, and competing.

It is his 14th year in the premier class.

Chapeau!

Well, he remains one of the greatest (if not THE...). The future will tell us if Marquez can compare

Dani is getting slated in another thread, he has more poles, wins and podiums than Rossi this season?

I think we should slate you

Its never ok to slate somebody who is one of the motogp legends ( official ) and I guess that conversely it would be ok to slate them if they were not.

Nonetheless ..... Rossi does remind me a lot of slate.

ie. If we liken motogp to a prehistoric lake .....he was laid down during a calm period ( boring eurocentric era of little talent in mgp )  and settled in place under those conditions.

At a point in time he was dug up and dragged out into a showroom and sold as "just the thing" .

As time went by he was superseded by better things ( such as Stone or Marquetry flooring.) ......  and  went out of fashion .

Don't get me started on Kork Ballington!!

You are suggesting we slate the 4th best rider in the world at the moment and a race winner this year?  Why?

His performance is disappointing relative to his previous form, which was of course legendary but by any other way of looking at it he's still pretty damn good.  Plus, there really aren't many (if any) riders in the world who have shown that they would be qualified to replace him, and that's before you take into accound his history and huge marketting potential.  Stupid question

Rossi will be on the Yam until he decides he's had enough.  I'm not a particular fan or hater for that matter, but clearly his career has earned him the right to finish on his own terms.  Save Cal, I don't see anyone in the lineup who'd do a great deal better given the tradeoff in sponsor earnings.   Rossi stays.
