Greetings everyone I'm a noob here from New Zealand.

I've been following MotoGP for the last few years and are a great fan of Rossi. I'm also quite keen on Gibernau (he has few head problems at the moment), and good old Nitro Nori.

Can you guys please answer a question for me please.

I started watching GP bikes just in time to see Doohan end his career and I am quite unfamilar with what happened before. I would really like to hear your guys comments on where Rossi fits into the big picture. Is he better than Doohan, Rainey, Gardiner,Agostini ect (sorry for the speeling)

Also most of last year there was no MotoGP coverage in this country, is there anyway to get some of last years races on DVD or Vid

Cheers

Watcha Marbles!! Coverage of races, seasons, etc is always good from Duke Marketing (they are on the net).As for past riders, one or two of us do write some loooong interesting posts on subjects so prepare yuself for a long read!!Once again ...Welcome

Hey Marbles! Welcome.

Regarding your question on 'How good is Rossi? Well i could go on for hours but il try n keep it short. In my opinion, He is the best ever. That doesnt mean im his greatest fan. It also doesnt mean that i wont have a bad word said about him either as there are other riders out there who deserve as much limelight as him.

Obviously its very hard to compare different riders from diff era's but he has just equaled Mike Hailwoods alltime race win record, and after signing another year with Yamaha, hes guna take a lot more! At the moment i think he is above everyone elses performance, as was Doohan in his era, thats why i think rossi takes so many wins and seems to 'play' with everyone on track.

therefore i think it will take another guy like Rossi to beat Rossi, which may never happen in his time.

Welcome again Marbles, i too love Nori, i was born and bred on superbikes
<

Welcome aboard Marbles, can't go wrong with a Sultain of Slide fan, just as you and Ron I was brought up on Superbikes. AMA then World Superbikes and I have now graduated to MotoGP.

As far as where Rossi fits in with the best of them, he is one of the best ever. It is so hard to gauge guys from different eras compared to modern riders. Machinery, technology, talent, and style is so different. Is he the best ever? IMO, no. I think he is one of the best, among the top 3. The reason he is not no. 1 in my book is because he didn't get a chance to prove his supremacy on a 2 stroke for long enough. The most feared bikes in the history of racing. I think the best ever has to go to riders like Rainey, Roberts, Sheene, Hailwood and Lawson with riders like Rossi, Doohan and Schwantz right behind them. I know I've clumped 5 riders as "Best Ever" with 3 more as "Top 3" but I think that's how I see it.

as a Rossi fan i would have to say yes, but. and there is allways a "but" how do you classify some one as being the best is it winning most races or not falling off good in the wet or good at starting (there is one department Rossi could improve on thats his starts) i think oost is rite he should be put up thier with all the other "Best" riders

i only became a massive Rossi fan when he joined Yamaha when all the other riders were queing up at HRC's door thinking if they rode a honda they would win all the time (i think Biaggi has proved it's not as simple as that) but rossi took a bike that was way under performing and used his talent to win and i admire him for that

now the yamaha is up there with the front runners Rossi is just playing with the other riders

and oost if you wanna put 5 riders in the top 3 you go rite ahead freedom of speech and all that
<

His switch to Yamaha is something I really admire. It was gutsy and you don't see moves like that in racing anymore, look at Michael Schumacher in the last 3 or 4 years for example.

again im abig rossi fan so id say yes hes the best and if he isnt yet lets c wot we r saying in 3 more years cus he aint finished yet, but u can imagine rossi on the grid with doohan, rainey, kevin, and lawson cant u cus i thing there would be a few
inside moves for sure,,, also look wot hes done to moto gp recently..

In terms of wins he is now 3rd along with Mike The Bike Hailwood (at 76 victories), only Nieto (90 victories) and Agostini (122 victories) have more GPs won.

My belief is that he is the best ever. One of the bases for my comment is that he has dominated in every form of motorcycle racing he has tried. He dominated 250 GP then 500GP and then went on to now dominate a number of very talented riders in MotoGP. He wins in the dry, he wins in the wet, he wins when starts dead last and he wins when he is issued a stop and go.
I feel the true test of a rider or driver is to not be a one trick pony. He wins under all conditions and as shown this past weekend...he wins on tracks that he absolutely hates.

He also develops motorcycles from an underachiever to top of the food chain.

His talent is just amazing to witness.

I have been a big fan of Rainey, Schwantz and Doohan but Rossi just blows me away.

ROSSI IS DA BEST EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER.

Thankx everyone for the welcome

I just wish I knew enough to make a comment here as I never saw these other top guys ride, to know how strong they were and the opposition around them, how good there bikes were against the others in the field. Its frustrating I just don't know enough.

I do know one thing though, I think we are watching someone very special at the moment that everyone is going to talk about for years and decades to come. And I do have one important peice of advice for everyone. DVD or Video these races at the moment because oneday he is gonna be gone. and in 10 years time you will be able to pull out those recordings and admire what happened it will be special.

I know of the years I've enjoyed some pretty special motorsport events and would give anything to see them again. I'd love to see Alex Zanadi in the Cart seires 96/97/98 that was something special, Nori in those years around 2000 on the Yam in superbikes he was fearless.

Rossi is pure talent

drill RallyeRon please go on for hours on this subject please I wanna know

Ahh Ooost anoth Nitro fan I just love that guy I'm hoping he comes to the fore in SBK again. Also in your opinion what does Rossi have to do to be the # 1 of all time, I beleive it his aim, just look at this weekend gone by he has an eye on the history.

arryace I too have not always been cheering for Rossi. I did when he was on the rise on the 500's but after 1 year the 990's I was hoping someone would knock him of his pearch as I beleived it was just the bike. But when he went to Yam wow impressive, did he ever ..... slap me around, what a .... I was for the previous few years I'm so ashamed of myself

. I'm now such a fan.

I too think he just playing with the opposition at the moment, I think he has a far better bike but just sits with the other riders until the last few laps and puts acid on them, I tell ya what he is destoying there heads something bad at the moment, look at Sete on the weekend ( respect Sete for not whinging this time ). I'm glad he dosn't do a Pedrosa and just run up the track and hide.

Anyone got a link to a pic of Rossi on the 125 with the big no 1 on his back I love that pic I want it for my Avatar

Cheers All

I'm not sure what he would have to do to be the greatest ever in my mind. Like I said before he is for sure one of the greatest ever. If he were to stick around for another couple years and switch to Ducati and win he would be no doubt in my mind the greatest ever. Or if he left for F1 and won a title I think he would be the greatest man in motorsports history.

I like Nitro but I'm more of a BB fan, just enjoy Nori's style... I guess the same can be said of Ben's too.

When exactly has Pedrosa done that?

I'm starting to notice that Rossi's fans are bashing the kid with no reason, maybe they fear what he can do next year in MotoGP? maybe they are pissed off because he has beaten all of Rossi's records in 125cc and 250cc???
<

Anyway, I hope Rossi doesn't win all the races left, it'll be very boring !!!

At the end of the day, yeah, Gibbers can be a sore loser........but you have to respect the guy, he's racing in the pinnacle of motocycle racing.........and he's quite good too!!

Anyway, its about time you made yr self a Rossi signature isnt it?
