Its winter there, difficult conditions (sliperry etc) not only for not even a rookie to a motogp who only test a few hours on a gp bike but for everyone.

According to gp-inside, Eugene Laverty destroyed the Suzuki XRH-1 MotoGP machine in the first turn at the Phillip Island, definitely not the best debut for a possible career in the premier class in 2015, when the house of Hamamatsu plans to return to the grid as a factory entry.

Few days ago we reported that World Superbike rider Eugene Laverty was invited by the Suzuki MotoGP team at Okayamain Japan and in Australia at Phillip Island for a test ride aboard the XRH-1 prototype. Paddock rumors indicated that the test in Oz might be a kind of shakedown between Eugene Laverty and Suzuki’s test rider Randy De Puniet, and it could help Suzuki choose one of its 2015 contracted riders.

Apparently, the crash occurred in Turn 1, after Laverty put in 5 laps around the wet circuit, and the Suzuki machine is reportedly pretty mauled. The rider made it unharmed, so there’s a good side to this story, after all.

Now, in case the tests at Phillip Island were indeed meant to provide Suzuki with at least basic info as to which of the two riders may be the better choice for a full-time contract in 2015… things could get funny, to say the least. However, as we know Suzuki and Davide Brivio, the team will take in consideration a ton of other factors before reaching a decent result and being able to make an official decision as far as the factory riders are concerned.

Suzuki is currently looking for the best riders it can afford, and is eyeing pretty much every name on the grid, save for those top-riders whose paychecks are obviously way too big. Asked whether he would ride a Suzuki in 2015, Dani Pedrosa allegedly demanded 8 million euro ($10.92 mil) and Suzuki officials commented that such money is out of their league. Andrea Iannone, currently riding a Pramac Ducati bike could also be one of Suzuki’s options, in case Carlo Pernat’s “scoop” was more than smoke and mirrors.

However, with one third of the season gone and the summer break drawing near, we can expect that more news emerges from the Hamamatsu team soon.

If either of these riders is in the class of riders they are looking to sign, they are not serious about Motoi GP. Same ole cheapskate Suzuki.
 
Management are the ones who say when to ride, not the riders. They were aware of the wet conditions and knew the risks involved. Besides they need wet data as well as dry data. Maybe they will gain something that allows them to win a wet race at a later date. Sometimes something found during wet conditions when the bike is on the verge of crashing can be applied to the bike and actually help it in the dry.

If I were starting up a new team then Laverty would definitely be on my short list along with a couple of others. He has the "fire in the belly" and so would the others on my list. Should not be hard to figure out who would not be on my list ----- anyone currently riding a GP bike. Would not waste my time trying to turn the Suzzy into a Yamaha or Honda just to please a rider stuck with old habits and not willing to learn how to ride my bike. But that's just me and what do I know when compared to this world of internet experts?

The bike he destroyed is a mule. They will hammer it back out and maybe put on a few better pieces then it will continue it's life as a mule.

The bike that will be on the grid has not been built yet. It will be nice and shiny with no hammer marks or crash rash.

The fact that Laverty is even with a shot for ride shows the poverty of Suzuki's ambition. They have no goals beyond just being there.
 
Laverty to ride Suzuki?

I believe that testing Eugene Laverty is an intelligent move by Suzuki. A lot of people seem to forget how good Eugene was on a 250, even though he never got a top ride or even a new machine. Based on the fact that everyone seems to think you have to come from Moto2/3 to ride a GP bike then surely his previous experience stands him in good stead. If you still doubt his calibre, look at how he put one over on Marco Melandri at Monza when they were both on Yamahas - and everyone knows how good Melandri was in GP's. I'm sure that the powers that be at Suzuki will be taking all this into account.
