John Hopkins will race for the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP team in the Czech Republic round of the MotoGP World Championship at Brno on Sunday 14th August.

John Hopkins will make his second appearance of the season for the Rizla Suzuki squad, this time as a team-mate for Álvaro Bautista rather than as a replacement. Hopkins deputised for the injured Spaniard at Jerez and scored a creditable 10thplace at the Spanish Grand Prix, due to Bautista’s inability to ride following the broken femur he suffered in Qatar.

The Anglo-American racer last rode at Brno for Rizla Suzuki in 2007 and recorded his best-ever finish in a MotoGP race by bringing his Suzuki GSV-R home in second place - a result that went some way to seeing Hopkins secure fourth place in the championship that season.

Hopkins is currently in second place in the British Superbike championship onboard a Suzuki GSX-R1000 with the Samsung Crescent Racing team. His next event is at Silverstone in England, when he gets a taste of World Championship motorcycle racing as he competes in the WSB series on Sunday 29th july.

Great news, I'm hoping Hopper gets a full time ride in 2012

Is he going to be on Alvaro's back up bike like Bostrom with LCR or does Suzuki have more bikes stashed away. It would really make me feel better about the situation with Suzuki and GP if they have more bikes. Is this for PR or is Suzuki starting to get a little more serious about their GP effort.

Everything I've read sounds like he is getting his own bike but, there hasn't been any true conformation of that. All that has been said is that they hope he can help develop the bike further given his success in the past at Brno.My link

I know most riders think of MotoGP as the pinnacle of motorcycle racing, but sometimes I think they might be oblivious to better opportunities that could fit them better.

If Hopkins wins more races this season in BSB, I think one of the competitive teams in WSBK should snatch him up. His last stint there was with a uncompetitive team, but with a good track record in BSB he could rocket up to one of the championship contending WSBK teams. I think he could be an instant contender much like Melandri has been so far.

John Hopkin has done ....-all in his motorcycle career. Why is this guy still mentioned and have a freakin' ride in MotoGP. This is crazy.

Looks like he's got his act together lately.

I've heard reports about him having an on going problem with pain relief medications.
