he effectively swapped his championship contention for money

Uhm, in case you didn't notice, the Kawasaki has been improving at the same rate as Suzuki and both have about the same championships in the last 5 years. I'd hardly call this a step down to sell his soul for money. The guy has dedicated most of his career and youth to this company (Suzuki) that wins a championship few and far between, which also had the same opportunity to keep him and reward him for all the years he rode a .... bike day in day out. Why does it have to be a bad thing that another company is willing to reward his talent? And now this is his fault?

I think staying at Suzuki was the no-brainer thing to do. The bike is good and the tires are fine. Next years combo will be better still. But then there is Denning and the two just don't seem to get on. This seems to have been the deciding factor but hey who doesn't like money?

The NinjaRR800 is certainly no better than the GSV-R800 as the results show across the board this year. Sure they have big plans for mega horsepower but with the fuel capacity restrictions horsepower for everyone will limit out, tires will also become more equal and every factory will have a killer machine. Within a year or so and it will be back to the rider being the difference. Maybe Hopper can go over to Kawasaki and ride the piss out of that bike and match his results of this year but I think he will lose a year in the transition so year 2 of the contract will be a major push for a championship win. The pressure for podium results is not going to be less although maybe it will be handled better. I wonder when Suzuki will let him ride the Kawasaki? Honda kept Rossi off the Yamaha until Jan 1st.

Show of hands, who thought Ducati made a huge mistake signing Casey with all of his crashing in 250's and last year? How about Shinya being a force on a stone' shod honda?

Put your hands down.

Now, raise your hand if you are a professional racer? I said you can raise your hands....

For everyone saying it is a bad move or he went to a ...... bike for a big paycheck, do you really think he would put himself on a bike he felt was less competitive than what he has now?

Thanks, teach.

I agree it's a good idea to wait and see how it plays out. But I-4's ain't looking good, and that engine config isn't good for late breaking. I'm looking forward to see what Hopper can do with it.

If he can compensate for the front end load under breaking (like Rossi), it seems he should be pretty damn good. If he can't take the bull by the horns (wow no reason to say that one anymore

), he's gonna be miserable.

I don't think that Hoppers is better than Vermulen. I think that Hoppers can act a little spoiled at times. I just watched the "Doctor, The Tornado and the Kentucky Kid". You can see and hear it in Hoppers. He has a little "entitlement" in his blood

Have you seen Faster? Here is another one, google "Vision Hayes" and check out his sponsors. Yeah, real sense of entitlement there...

Maybe Hopkins is becoming uneasy? He went from AMA to GPs pretty quickly; it seems like only big prospects move that fast. What is this, his sixth season in GPs? He hasn't won yet, although he is getting close. Most people worry when things don't go as well as they thought. Maybe, after all the hype, he feels as though he is mired in at Suzuki. He could just be trying somethign new to see how things work. He has spent six years with Suzuki, maybe something there just isn't working for him.

the boy can ride, thats why im his #1 fan.
any bike he rides i dont care.
maybe he can just keep on moving up the ladder and get himself a "big" (you know what companies i mean) factory ride and get that damn championship we all expect him to get.

what on earth???
a few times this season the suzukis have been running 2-3 and are probably the 2nd best package out there. As if the kwak is as good. Suzuki have come on leaps and bounds this year. Hopkins will fade whilst chris v will improve and improve.
It just seems odd to me that hopkins would so long with a bike he has helped so much to develop and then leave when it was at its most competitive. Reason = greedy for money.

Is that why the Kawasaki has a higher top speed and quicker lap times?

I'm not sure it's a good move for Hopkins but it sure is a good move for Kawasaki.

They did not have top riders this year and the bikes have proved to be quite competitive.

But I do think Vermeulen is a better rider and you just have to look at the results although Chris is not very consistent yet (Stoner wasn't either before 2007).
