Homeowners sue to try and shut down Laguna Seca.

Happens all the time. Tracks everywhere are affected. The righteous whiners with money always seem to think they can win. I of course always hope they do not.

Yes, has happened to several race tracks in Sydney I frequented in my youth, including one which operated only 2 weekends a year. As the article satirises, the track had operated for years with no houses within tens of kilometers, then houses were built next to it and the residents complained.

If you don't like motor racing, don't buy a house next to a race track.indeed.

Complete insanity that these people ever actually win. Of course councils are happy to oblige because they get more rates etc.

Well at least, in this case, the USA version of "council" owns the track.

They've been successful getting the 90 db noise limit enforced. People also move near & build homes close to Air Force bases then send complaints to the base about aircraft noise. Lol Humans and our delusion... we tend to always think we're the star & lead actor in our own movie so everyone and everything needs to cater to us.

It’s always been a problem for those nearby. What’s happening is there is steadily less tolerance to noise

And a money grab. It's a tale as old as time. Move to an undesirable location such as near a racetrack, get said race track removed and suddenly your property is worth significantly more.

The issue is that the track was there before the houses, so it should be protected. I've seen it before with these NIMBY types. I remember there was a group in my home town who got into skateboarding so they started doing it somewhere. Instead of building them a park, the council said 'nope, can;t do that there'. Then, when they moved, they again got told 'nope, can't do that there either!'
Continually taking away peoples source of joy or entertainment then wondering why things like crime increase?

I've going to Guna in October to tick it off my bucket list, and I'm gonna make sure I'm extra loud. I tell you what, Highway 68 better be careful, it's like the dog that catches the car. If he successfully gets Laguna Seca closed down, then he's going to likely have a whole lot of other problems with impromptu car meets outside his house.

.... this guy.

I have been to, and raced at, just about every major race track in the US. Most successful tracks are in towns that benefit from the track and the events and people that the track draw in. Lagun Seca is not one of those places, at least not any more. It has become a very affluent area, thanks to property prices, and more often then not money usually has the last word on these matters. However, The track is not what it once was, and has been giving into decades worth of community demands that has stripped it of most, if not all, of its major racing events.
