BMW plans to enter the 2008 Superbike World Championship with Alex Hofmann riding a new 1000cc four-cylinder racebike.

That's the word from German sources close to the company.

Hofmann recently lost his MotoGP ride with d'Antin Ducati.

More information will follow as it becomes available.

Good to see he will be getting a ride somewere.

But im still trying to get my head around the whole BMW in Superbikes thing !!

I've seen so many spy photos of BMW sportbikes I can't possibly get excited about another big European manufacturer entering WSBK.

It seems to fit with the direction the company plans to take, but I've been looking at spy photos of that damn white BMW for years now.

I'm going to be amazed if they have it ready in 2008.

If BMW has the know how to build a good 4 cylinder racebike it seems like they could win pretty easily. Like Ducati they can make ridiculous homologation machines........and sell them.

Would it just be a knockoff of the K1200 with a 1000cc engine in it? Or does this mean they will be releasing an honest to god 1000cc supersport?

Pretty good news. Now I just want to head what Aprilia is planning to do. It seems to me that they would be smart to make a comeback in WSBK firest then move into MotoGP if they decide to go that route.

Good to see BMW in the mix. Aprilia and MV coming back (fingers crossed), the championship is looking pretty strong.

With you there.

I mean, how long have we been hearing stories of BMW returning to racing bikes?

But, if it does happen I hope it is a full serious tilt and not some half arsed attempt to create a sales market.
