Hale Wins Five With AFM At Thunderhill, Cinching Overall Points, Four AFM Class Championships

Lenny Hale won five of five AFM races at Thunderhill Raceway Park this past weekend on his Yamaha YZF-R6, and left the track with the club’s overall championship. Hale also won the class championships for 600 Production, 600 Superbike, 750 Production, 750 Superbike, and took third overall in Formula 1.

In two days of racing with rain in the morning and cooler temperatures on the second day, Hale stacked up his wins in 750 Production, 750 Superbike, Formula 1, 600 Superbike, and 600 Production after a red flag restart.

In 600 Production, Hale went back and forth with Tyler O’Hare on his YZF-R6, those two vying for the lead with Berto Woolridge in third. On lap two of the race, Woolridge crashed going into turn five, and Hale hit the oil from the crash on the next lap and tumbled through the turn. Two more bikes right behind Hale hit the fluid and nearly collided as the race was red flagged for the cleanup. Both Hale and Woolridge were able to make it into the pits and re-enter the race and their back up bikes. On the restart, Hale was able to maintain his lead and take the win.

“It was nice to have the competition from Tyler this weekend,” said Hale. “ All season long, he’s been the best competition I’ve had, and he always brings his best. I’ve really had a lot of fun racing him this year, and look forward to more good competition next year.

"I also want to thank my sponsors: Dunlop, PSR, Garage Endeavors, EDR Performance, Factory Bodyworks, Pacific Track Time, Arai Helmets, NJK Leathers, for helping me with my racing effort this season. It’s been kind of tough this year, but I’ve had some really good results, and couldn’t have done it without their help.”

Yes, but unfortunately, funding and some other personnel issues have ended the AMA DSB effort. Most people wouldn't believe how expensive it is even on a shoe string budget. The AMA has this cost restrictive schedule that goes from east to west, east to west, which takes up losts of travel budget. I was talking to Noodlerizer the other day, and he was hampered with the same problem. You will notice that the DSB field is usually made up of several wildcard track specialist from the venues they visit, but the regulars are about 15-20. So, it looks like for the moment, completing an AMA schedule is on hold. But who knows, maybe next year we may give it a go at least at Fontana, that is if a few issues are ironed out.

The dude has talent. He usually kills at all California tracks and was a consistent 13th in DSB at most venues.

I'm working on a project at the moment with one of his sponsors, Garage Endeavors. I'm looking at painting one of their project bikes. (BTW, Garage Endeavors does the electronics for Lenny and a few other riders, J.D. Beach and Cameron Beaubier.)

Speaking of news, here is something even more exciting for me. Benny Solis Jr. will be teaming up with World Champ Scott Russell to ride a Project 1 Graves Yamaha at an endurance race at Road Atlanta this weekend. If that is not too far from you, you should check it. out.
