MotoGP: Hayate Kawasaki out for 2010

HAYATE - the MotoGP team formerly known as Kawasaki - are to quit racing in the Premier class at the end of 2009.
Last year Kawasaki announced its withdrawal from MotoGP competition, handing over their project and accompanying machines to the newly-formed Hayate racing, with Italian fast man Marco Melandri as the team's sole rider.

Hayate's Chief Engineer Andrea Dosoli has said Kawasaki will play no part in next year's MotoGP series: "Kawasaki will not take part in MotoGP next year."

It seems Marco Melandri will, once again, be searching for another seat in MotoGP.

We'd give him a job. Tomorrow.

IF this is correct yamaha should think about him replacing toseland as i believe melandri could get some real good results for tech 3

A return to Fausto - again is on the cards. Other than that, I think there will be plenty of teams clamoring for his signature (with the possible exception of Ducati
<
)

sad news, more bikes needed, not less...

<

as for marco going to gresini, it could happen but imagine the garages. 2 italian riders called marco, there would be chaos!

<

IMO tech3 would be a not bad place to land for marco. the newest incarnation of the yamaha might treat him a lot better than the last version he rode..

i have heard it's pretty much a done deal that marco melandri and marco simoncelli will both be ridding for gresini honda next season.

well if this turns out to be true, which i can see it being, then it's moto2 for toni & alex next season.

Didn't see this one coming

(sarcasm intended).

Where are the bikes going to come from next season? MOTOGP is going to have to do something drastic and they need to do it soon.

I was going to say, this was probably the most secure bet you could have taken. The Hayate "project" was Dorna just trying to keep the magic 18 bikes on the grid and most likely a compromise with Kawasaki so they could get out of the contract deal. I'm sure Marco knew this as well, the guy just needs to prove he's still got it and pray for that Honda back.

eurosport were saying its a done deal, gresini is a marco duo next season. melandri must have bought them quite a few beers to heal the rift. most peeps seem to have forgotten about that.

I happy for Marco He finally will get to be on a decent bike next year! I see a couple of podiums in his future!!! But honsetly I would have preffered to see him on the Yamaha

I'm sorry to hear Kawasaki are definately leaving but it was quite obvious, they already pulled the plug, and the R&D was shut down, they just make spare parts for the current bike. I'll remember Nakano on the mean green machine taking a couple of podiums! But I think their effort was badly managed from the beggining. The bike was never very quick and the riders got worse and worse.

Marco will most likely look for a seat at Gresini. But I think there was gonna be one more Honda next season. And Aspar is talking to Yamaha to get 1 bike, though I don't hold my breath. I think Dorna will apply some pressure on the manufacturers to field more bikes. Or at least I hope they do!

So when are suzuki going to pull out? I can't see them staying in this economic climate. I predicted before the start of the season kawasaki and suzuki will pull out. Kropotkin seems to think suzuki will pull the plug after their contract with Dorna expires in 2011 (I think). It seems about right - the whole suzuki effort is going nowhere. All the so called upgrades have done nothing to improve the bike.
I don't see the suzuki being any more desirable to a top rider than the ducati. And with the rookie rule being what it is, I can't see anyone in the motoGP field making an impact, except of course the likes of Rossi who definately wouldn't want to go near the pile of dung called the suzuki.

The way last winter went I really thought Suzuki was done then but they came out with a new machine. Hopefully they don't leave even though they aren't winners they are still in the top ten and sometimes top 5. It is obvious they are capable of so much more. The first thing would be to sign some new blood but really, like you say, who wants to? I mean of course you could get riders but top guys...

Ducati will have lots of people wanting to race if Nicky actually gets a handle on the machine.

I agree with you, they need to get some new blood. This is hindsight of course, but they blew it not signing a certain WSBK Yamaha rider.
<
Getting on to who they have now, both Chris and Loris are good guys, but not good enough to push the always behind machine up to the front consistently. Let's pretend they drop both Vermi and Capi after this year, who do you think they could pick up?

Completely agree with you here. It's clear that is Ducati's goal with Nicky, get him consistency in the top 5-8 to show that the bike can be ridden successfully by someone other then Stoner. If Nicky and team can do this, Ducati will be set for the future.

With Hayate & Grupo Francisco Hernando both out the field for 2010 is down to 16???

That's not enough to make it a world championship, I thought?

Isn't 18 the min?

Kropotkin has clarified this with the FIM officials, there is no minimum number of riders needed to qualify for a world championship. So the real reason is mostly likely broadcast contracts as was speculated last year.

well if jorge martinez gets his team together it would make 17 bikes. 18 if it's a 2 man team.

Well being that they're the only marques with a realistic chance of winning a GP - the answer is, not much different to he kind of championship that we have now. But I take your point.

I don't think Suzuki will walk away from MotoGp.
