Best ride I've seen and I was there to witness it. Rossi masterclass Donington Park 2005. The way he gapped the rest in horrendous conditions was truly amazing.

Some of the most memorable moments

That video of Kiyonari is one of my favourites, unbelievable control in awful conditions. An absolute mystery of a rider though, he'd win the championship one year and the next he'd struggle to get into the top 10.

Any race with Stoner at PI. Great of course on the Duc, his slides being total poetry. Tho on the Honda really, from the perspective of being a master of control with the throttle, when he would go through Lukey Heights and hold that ....... INCREDIBLE tight line like he was glued to the join between the rumble strip and the racing surface. Not as dramatic as the slides - but mind-blowing accuracy.

Credit where credit is due, Rossi never being all that concerned with quali - used to scythe through the field very clean, and reel in front three riders and was truly impressive.

The 'moments' he had in that race should have made him back off but maybe seeing him having them made all the others slow down.

Hey Dip ...., when I said you have a lot of reading to do & videos to watch to catch up. Picking a video with goat boy on the best bike in the world at the time, with a pair of Saturday night specials. It is simply not going to impress us old timers. Yeah we know about the penalty he got in that race & the gap at the end of the race. But best bike in the world with a pair of Saturday night specials. Marques ride in Argentina was more impressive! Spec tires, spec ECU and a heck more talented riders to compete against. It was your god not conceding the racing line and ....... up that race. ............

No Saturday Night Specials n the fly always , Euro rounds only.

No SNS at Phillip Island. Logistically impossible.

9-0. The score in this thread. Synn trolls and y'all fight for the bait. The forum is completely unreadable. You guys are getting crushed.

Dubs,

May have been a troll but it is also a genuine race thread

If he feels it to be that race than we can all discuss it civilly ................. trolling would be where he or another starts a thread or participates in a thread that drops to the usual ..... measuring competitions that we have seen to much of late.

I treat all threads as genuine until they turn to ....

My view as well.

I don’t think PI 2003 was Rossi’s greatest ride though, that being Donington 2005 imo as well as Daniboy’s, and he couldn’t touch Stoner at PI in general, even with Stoner on a 2010 Ducati against Jorge and Valentino on the championship winning 2010 Yamaha; he beat them by 9 and 17 seconds respectively.

As you have implied and others have said, equipment comes into it as well, the V5 Honda being a rather handy device as opposed to the 2003 Yamaha for instance, and wins by Garry McCoy as you raised and Simon Crafar on satellite bikes were particularly meritorious in that context.

Yes both right! I forgot the fly away rounds almost level the field back then.

I think Michelin ran a tiered system independent of the SNS tires, but the leading teams/riders were all likely on the top tier tires at the flyaway rounds, and as we are discussing could not be individually tailored at those races.

No doubt Rossi was really good back then anyway.

In terms of a race that had me absolutely on the edge of my seat and having a little shout at the the telly, then probably Welkom 2003, not because it was a masterclass and nothing to do with where Vale came, but purely because it was so soon after Daijiro passed away, it was properly emotional.

WSBK Imola 2002 was something else too.
