MotoGP: Film star Banderas to launch Moto2 team

(AFP) – 12 hours ago

MADRID — Spanish actor Antonio Banderas will next season launch a motorcycling team in Moto2, the replacement for the 250cc MotoGP category, he told television channel TVE1 on Friday.

The team is likely to be called either 'Banderas Racing Team' or 'Team Antonio Banderas' but the identities of its riders are not yet known.

"I will try to give my best to the riders in this new category so that they can work in the best conditions," said Banderas, famed for his roles in the films The Mask of Zorro and Philadelphia, from his Los Angeles residence.

The 48-year-old film star has owned motorbikes for over 30 years and is known to take a great interest in the fortunes of Spanish MotoGP riders Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa.

Now wheres the Mike Jordan Team

from Marca.com

Joan Olivé has been confirmed as a rider of the new Banderas team, team manager Daniel Devahive said so plus the bike will use a Harris chassis, Öhlins and Brembo brakes. The 2nd rider would possibly be an English rider.

The team is currently on the waiting list, but they expect to be confirmed as participants soon.

Cali Kid told me about this, perhaps he knew since he works in Hollywood. I told him I've never like non-acting ability Banderass, just like Fabio, however, anybody who puts in money into my sport gets a pass. Even Tom Cruise with his lending of fame and notoriety to the sport is welcome.

this new news ? any relation to dennis noyes/eurosport ?

Moto2 American

Twenty-nine year old American Kenny Noyes will race the Moto2 World Championship in 2010 for Antonio Banderas Racing. The new Moto2 class replaces the long-standing 250cc two-stroke series. All Moto2 bikes will use the same Honda 600cc four-cylinder engines and Dunlop tires. The Hollywood film star and life-long motorcycle-racing enthusiast will use Harris frames, Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes on the Antonio Banderas Racing Moto2 machines.

Although Noyes has spent much of his life racing in Europe, the Moto2 rookie will be the only American racing in the 2010 series. Noyes had been in discussions with several teams, but was offered a contract by Dani Devahive, director of Antonio Banderas Racing, after his win for the Plameto Kawasaki Team at the fifth round of the Spanish 1000cc Extreme Championship in ‘09.

Noyes had a first test with the Moto2 motorcycle at the Valencia Circuit the day after the final MotoGP of last season. During Noyes first test, only one Moto2 bike was available so Kenny and Joan (his teammate), he had to share the bike during each of the running two-hour session. Here is what Kenny had to say after the test on the new Harris Moto2 motorcycle.

Kenny Noyes Speaks...

"The bike is so light and quick handling. It is different from the big bikes I've ridden up until now, but I understand what I need to do to adapt the bike to me and me to the bike. I'm used to riding a 1000cc Kawasaki so I have to get used to going in deeper on the brakes and I have to carry more corner speed."

"The thing is incredibly loud, so loud I wondered if I had forgotten by earplugs! Today was a good first ride. But the track was cold and the times really don't mean much. This bike is capable of going a lot quicker. We are making a lot of changes for tomorrow."

"Over the last two years we have been winning races in the Spanish Nationals, so when I heard that the 250 series was being replaced by Moto2 I was hopeful that I might get a chance, and now I am determined to make the most of this opportunity with Antonio Banderas Racing."

"This will be an interesting mix of riders. There will be good 125 and 250 two stroke guys with GP experience, a couple of ex-MotoGP and x World Superbike riders and a few riders like me with lots of four stroke experience but new to GPs. I know six of the 17 tracks, so I'll be running lot of laps on Playstation."

We look forward to watching the rookie Kenny Noyes carry the American flag in the European Moto2 series alongside his countryman Colin Edwards, Nicky Hayden and Ben Spies who will campaign in the premier MotoGP class.
