Was it just me or did reading that make you feel like a salmon swimming upriver?

I don't know. I'm a little more optomistic about this. I believe and hope that if we're going to push CRT's then it will follow the mold of what Kenny Roberts did with the KR211V. In my opinion, for teams that are non manufacturers can begin purchasing prototype engines from let's say Cosworth, KTM, Ilmor, etc then I think it will follow the F1 mold.

Purchasing an engine will be cheaper than leasing a Honda/Yamaha/Ducati, and they can still build their own chassis to fit that engine. I wouldn't mind this, but I think Carlos understands we need to begin somewhere, hence the tuned production engines.

I have my fingers crossed

Oh and if they get Magnetti Marelli to create the spec ECU, then I don't see an issue with this either, since they're top notch

In the interview Ezpeleta says that he does not want a big gap between the first and last bike. Does this mean performance or does it mean gap in the race?

If he means gap in the race then he needs to create a series that only has the VERY best riders in it and this can't happen if poor quality riders are buying seats unless he means to handicap riders based on performance. If he means bike performance then if riders are buying seats then it will have no impact on the race results and spread out fields because there is no way in hell a slow rider who buys a seat will ever lap anywhere near the pace of Stoner or Lorenzo regardless of how close the performance of the bikes are. Hell you could throw Stoner on the Suzuki and give half the 2012 field a Repsol Honda and still the gap from Stoner back to the others would be huge.

The problem is that the disparity between riders is too big because seats aren't earned by performance they are earned by marketability and CRT is not the answer because as discussed on other threads the riders are still buying seats despite the lower costs of being on the grid.
