Colin Edwards just debuted the new livery that will adorn his M1 for today's race. Check out the pictures, all courtesy of Tim Huntington and the boys at www.superbikeplanet.com.

That does look real purdy. It`s a pity HRC/Repsol are such stiffs. It`d be cool to see Nicky in some lively one off stars n stripes stype paint job for Laguna.

Nice but maybe they should spend more time getting the damn bike running properly that just making it pretty..

I am so disappointed in Colin performance in his motogp career.

Just excuse after excuse with this dude.

I was a huge CE fan..now I'm not so sure...

what a great loking bike....

what a nice guy......

what a character........ (hes been on 'friends'!)

HOWEVER....what has he acheived so far in moto gp?

not enough....

hes kinda reflecting alex barros's acheivment b4 he went back to world superbikes.....maybe superbikes would be better for colin...

i still like him, and regard him as a good racer...but hes not a champion..

I agree that Colin has had a real rough go at MotoGP and there have been a lot of excuses surrounding him but in all honesty, they aren't very far fetched. Season one with Aprilia, it was a miracle he did what he did what that machine and wasn't spit off more. Season two with Gresini Honda, he had the bike under him but the team was focused on Sete and he was the last rider to get parts of all the Honda boys. Season three with Yamaha he adjusted to the M1 and was the no. 2 rider and I felt he had a strong season as he did in 2005. This year the M1 is struggling and so is Edwards, I'm sure Yamaha have a lot invested in Rossi winning this title so there will be a lot of focus on that side of the garage. I'm not saying CE is being ignored but I'm sure he's not receiving the attention a factory rider should be getting. Just my two cents.

I have no problem believing the issues with the Aprillia and to some extent the honda or why else would he have left for Yamaha.

I have to believe that Yamaha is giving Colin something close to what Rossi has just based on the sparks of brilliance in some of the races this year but Rossi is finding a way to make that bike work.

Colin is supposed to be a set-up wiz but either the rumors that Colin gets the good stuff when Vale is out are true or Colin has lost his magic.

Not that I think he sucks....I just hate seeing such a talented rider scrub it up with the likes of the Kawis and Roberts..

It's sad to see him suffering in the bottm end of the top 10 if not outside of it.

whats happening with edwards next year? ... i know we had a thread about him going back to WSBK or something ... but you's got too technical for me...

he shouldnt stay in MGP,

I think there are other riders (mainly Hoffman) that deserve the boot before Colin. They(Vale&Yamaha) like the fact that both riders are about the same in lenght of their limbs and bodies to make set up eaisier.

Hoffmann is good where he is. He dosen`t deseve the boot. His teammate however.... But since when do motoGP team bosses listen to us?

must agree those are nice colours

,i think every motogp fan thinks Edwards should get a better break, and want to see him do better, but i just cant put my finger on it,going from Honda to Yamaha could'nt of helped, would love to see him back on one of the new 800's next season for Honda, and see if he can find his edge, cos he deserves it,he's good for the sport.?
What can the yanks tell yanks tell us about this helmet design of Nicky's at Laguna, his boy hood hero ?Bubba Showba or something like that ?

Bubba Shobert was practiaclly a US flat track legend and was to be the next big thing in Grand Prix racing. I want to say he was roughly the same age as Schwantz and Rainey. I believe his career ended at the 1988 USGP, maybe it was '89, I can't remember. After the race he was doing a burnout on the run out of turn five up to turn six, Darryl Beatie didn't see him through the smoke and rear ended him at 100mph. I don't know what his injuries were but he never raced Grand Prix after that. That's about all I know about him. I thought it was a very cool nod from Nicky.

You can read about what happened to Bubba here:
http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2005/Jul/1989usgpb.htm

Kevin Magee did two or three burnouts in the turn five/six area of the track on the cool-off lap of the 1989 USGP, each a little longer than the previous. Magee sat almost dead-center on the track when doing so.

.....
Lawson and Shobert, side by side, rode up and through the wisps of smoke from Magee's burnouts, Shobert looked right over at Lawson, their eyes met and they smiled at each other. "He sort of motioned to me, with three fingers, asking if I finished third. I nodded yes and put up three fingers," remembers Lawson. "He was happy and he gave me the thumbs up and grabbed a big handful of throttle." They were, naturally, near the center of the track, not far off the racing line.

At the last nano-second, out of the corner of his eye, Lawson saw something solid in front of them and he quickly counter-steered, slamming the clip-ons left to quickly swerve right. Fortunately, he narrowly missed Kevin Magee's still smoke-spewing Yamaha.

Shobert was not as lucky.

Still on the gas from his exuberance, Shobert's Honda hit the back and left side of Magee's Yamaha with full impact; there wasn't a moment for Shobert to grab the brakes. "He was still looking at me until the last moment," recalls Lawson today. "I don't think he ever saw Magee's bike through the smoke."

....

Bubba Shobert suffered a major head injury in the crash and tragically would never race again. After months in the hospital, he recovered well from the incident—he now leads a normal life, is married and has two children. He's a familiar face around America's dirt track paddock as the team manager for the Custom Chrome Harley-Davidson team.

Thanks SV, I had read that article but it was all a bit hazy.

yes, nice touch from nicky, maybe the riding across the dirt with the stars and stripes held aloft was another kinda tribute ?
