Yamaha perhaps might not be best impressed though, and I can't precisely recall whether he has a contract or options in his or yamaha's favour for next year.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (clarkjw @ Aug 7 2009, 09:14 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>No rules would be broken.
His contract is one year, he'a free agent on Jan 1 2010. He couldn't test before then without permission.

I really can't wait till Portimao!
From what I understand he has an option with Yamaha for 2010. I don't know exactly how that would potentially play out with secret testing and whatnot but I doubt it will come to that. Spies will ride a Tech 3 Yamaha in 2010.

Spies won't take a Ducati... his mom is way too smart for that to happen.

He would be stupid not to. Sure maybe he will come up a little short on a wsbk championship, but he will never be a hotter commodity than he is right now. The People's Champ, as I will call him from now on, doesn't need to win the championship to prove he is the best rider in wsbk this year. So another season in wsbk will just lower his desire by other teams maybe not much but a little. Because if he doesn't improve on an already impressive first season he will lose a little stock. Like if he doesn't win on tracks he won on his first time at them or slower lap times, it could look a little bad. So I say get it while the gettin's hot. Plus he needs to get that gaytarded rookie rule out of the way anyway.

Mutual options to renew are LEGALLY meaningless. Spies can ride for ANYONE in 2010. I don't think he'd leave SBK until he won the championship. He's more likely to have negotiated Yamaha test rides & wildcards han a seat swap. However, word is Yamaha won't pay Colin the big bucks to ride in MotoGP anymore.

Honestly, so much is up in the air it's hard to even speculate....
Where will Lorenzo land?
Could a potential displacement max raise to 1000cc mean more bikes and seats in 2010?
Will be win the SBK?
Does DORNA/BBC value Toesland enough to keep him there?
Is Suzuki still gonna be in GPs?

will this make any things clearer.if Ducati take the option up by the 1st of september.?
if they dont would Kallio move to the Official Team leaving a spot open at Pramac.
lets see what happens in the next 3 weeks or so.

Ducati is confident Nicky Hayden will commit to a new deal to stay with the Bologna factory for the 2010 MotoGP world championship.

Ducati has an option on the Kentucky rider that must be exercised on or before September 1, and after a nightmare start to his career on the GP9, it is looking increasingly likely that the 2006 world champion will stay.

Ducati’s factory team boss Livio Suppo told MCN: "It makes sense for us to wait with Nicky until Brno. If the results are going on I’m sure Nicky would be happy to stay and we would be happy to keep him. I think if you had asked him in Mugello whether he would have stayed he’d have probably have said ‘not sure.’ You can’t force a rider to stay if he doesn’t want to, and it would be stupid to stay with a rider if the results don’t come. But my feeling is that Nicky wants to stay."

Are you guys reading motogpmatters posts on the silly season?
I don't think Spies is going to land in Yamaha. i would love for him to. But it looks like Colin has made a Deal with the devil.. He continues to have more lives than 12 cats...

Secretly was praying for him to Win at Donny though!!!

Yeah I just finished reading that actually. The writing made it sound as though Spies may not want to go to Yamaha as Lorenzo and Rossi will have a stranglehold on the factory seats for the foreseeable future. I still think the Tech 3 team is his best bet with the rookie rule in place. Even if the factory team is on lock down, that doesn't mean he should sign for a team with less potential at present just because there's an easier route to the factory squad. Who he signs with in 2010 doesn't necessarily mean he'll be riding for that factory in 2011 or 2012.

Ben did respectable in his outings with Suzuki. However, just because you are fast on a Superbike doesn't mean you will be fast in GPs. Spies may very well break the curse, but the realistic situation is that no SBK champ has done much in GP for a while. This includes the almighty Bayliss. Is Spies faster than Bayliss on a Superbike? Would Spies be faster than Bayliss on a GP bike? Remember, Bayliss had the coveted RC211V/Michelin package and couldn't get much headway.

bayliss won the last race he had on a motogp bike, a 990 ducati, that couldnt come close all season, till baylisstic got a wildcard

Capirossi actually was running up front all season until he was involved in the carnage in Barcelona. He was a title contender before that.

So heres the latest rumor i heard about Spies.

He has no plans to leave Yamaha at the current time, but he definitely wants to be in Motogp ASAP. He's 25 and feels that time is gonna working against him. He has had discussions with Yamaha about giving him full factory support on a different team even if Rossi and Lorenzo are still around in 2011.

I cant wait!!!!!! : )

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (frosty58 @ Aug 10 2009, 03:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>i would be surprised if he dosen't end up on a honda.
<

If he "doesn't"? What makes you think he is giving Honda a consideration Frosty? Or the other way around, Honda giving him consideration? I don't doubt he has Honda in mind, as it's one of the best bikes next to the Yamaha this year, but where could he fit in? Gresini has Simoncelli locked, but still has a 2nd seat and only rumors of Melandri taking seat #2. If they go with Melandri, that gives them an all Italian team with boss, sponsor and riders all Italian. I'm willing to guess that is the route Gresini will take. That only leaves LCR and Scot as possible Honda's. I think it would be smart for Honda to try and pick up Spies, as that would give them a load of great riders to contend.

I still have a feeling he will stay in WSBK another year. If his goal is GP it's not the best choice, but he may not have a good place to move too and I have a feeling Yamaha is going to really sweeten the deal for him to stay.

Silly season is going to be one of the best this year, that's for sure.

i'll tell ya boots that it seems funny how we here about all the intense intrest in spies from suzuki, ducati & of course yamaha.... but it's strange we don't hear a peep outa honda.

I like the way you're thinking, ice man, but I'm just not feeling Honda at this time...

What about the obvious size problem. Ben will have to weigh in under 150. It hurt Toseland and could hurt him.

One of the most critical factors!
The SBK Yamaha makes about 79ft lbs of torque vs about 67 on the M1 (and about 73 for the GP9).
Spies is a sninny lad though.

YEah but the SBK's weight is more than the GP bike so they are close I would imagine.

It is obvious that weight is going to hurt him.
