My wife and I are thinking about heading down from the Philly area. We might take a couple of extra days to enjoy the ride down. I was wondering if you guys knew of anything that's worth seeing along the way. National parks, anything scenic, restaurants, tourist traps, amusment parks, etc.

Also, can we get paddock passes like at leguna?

What's the best view?

Lastly, what's it like camping there?

Oh and we're also thinking about going to the last AMA race in NJ instead since it's so close and probably a lot more accessible to fans. What would you do?

Thanks!

damn i had no idea...do u know where i can get more info on this?

welcome lance... i went to the indy gp last year & i saw camping around the outside of the track. could not tell you anything about it but it is available. you can buy a paddock pass but they are limited & you need to check on the availability immediately.... they sell out very quickly.

I did the drive from Harrisburg, PA a few times. Pretty boring drive for the most part. Not a lot to see along the way. I would just do a straight shot and hang in indy. Pretty cool town.

Can you buy paddock passes?!?! The only way, I've been told, is through group ticket sales and the VIP packages. And we are not part of a group or VIPs. I've been emailing David Letterman and begging for his. (He is a hometown boy, surely he has some he's not using.) But if you know of a way...please let me know as soon as possible.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I would love to know where to get paddock passes and if the camping is decent.

What's Indy like anyway?

Like Ratticus said, drive there (from Ohio) was boring.

But we had a great time at Indy last year. But I didn't envy the campers...we had a hotel room. Downtown was great and there were a lot of cool bars and restaurants. We stayed closer to the track so even though the room was pricey, it wasn't what you would normally expect for that kind of money...but no complaints. I reserved the same room for this year. I would love to stay downtown but my husband won't park his bikes where he can't keep an eye on them.

We are going a day earlier this year, I can't wait!

I've just spent half of the afternoon emailing and phoning but the only paddock passes available come with package deals which either don't fit our wants and/or our budget...so no luck. But I did score a parade lap coupon!

I drove out to Indy from Philly last year and the drive was pretty boring...we arrived early Saturday and camped outside the track..we lucked out because it didn't rain one bit on us while our camp was set up..I decided to break camp down before we headed off for the races on Sunday...after the races we stripped off the rain gear and got in out warm dry truck and headed for home.

The camp area wasn't bad... Plenty of port-o potties and showers

Thanks guys. I decided to sit Indy out this year and just to go to the AMA race. I have a bunch of reasons. Mainly, I already took off for the September races and I might have to train a couple of classes in August. I would need to take more time off to just to drive and then the weather is a gamble. Oh and I also have no kitchen at the moment, which I hope will be done by then, but who knows. . . Not at the rate I'm going.
