i think the forums normally pretty slow sunday nights for us aussies unless theres an early race

No, I don't think so - with all the talent coming through into MotoGP and the young talent already there the competition is fierce! He's a good rider and can win some races, (I think), but IMO he isn't gonna win a world championship. I'm sure a few people will beg to differ though....

I AGREE...Son of Doohan...He’s A BIG DUD!!...specially after what Chris has done to him at Suzuki!!!

Taht's WHY HE LEFT or IS THAT RIGHT!!!...lol

BUT I LIKE "HI'S SORT"...MIIIAAAUUUU!!!

I think Hopper can be top 3 and a regular winner but i don't believe he will ever be a world champion (by no fault of Kawasaki). However i think people get carried away with all the "look how Chris is showing him up" crap because if you look at the racing that isn't done in the wet, Hopper is significantly better.

Not unless he starts doing something soon, like win a race, he's been here a while now and won nothing.

The guys who are championship material are up there every week, Hopper, isnt doing that.

Tommy...YES...but HOW LONG DOES??? A racer need to get a podium, win etc???...It’s taken Hoppers quite a long time or better still...he’z ONLY had ONE PODIUM!!!... OK...Chris hasn’t lit the world on fire but he’s done better than Hoppers...Well Tommy just watch our boy Chrissie from now on when he’s not living in the Hoppers shadow!!!...He’z already proven him UP BIG TIME at Laguna!!!...YOU WATCH IT FROM NOW ON!!!...when Suzuki will give Chris all the good bits!!!

I do not think that there is any denying that Hopper is a great racer. I think if he were with a better team that he would be competing for wins. I think that there is 1 of 3 reasons why Hopper signed with Kawasaki.

1. Monster and Kawasaki offered him so much money that he could not refuse

2. If Hopper stays with Suzuki he may lose his excuse for why he is not winning. This means that Hopkins is afraid of being on a competitive team because then he will be expected to win races and will lose any excuse he has.

3. Maybe Hopper knows something that we don't about Kawasaki. Maybe Kawasaki has a new budget or some new stuff coming for Hopper to make it competitive. Then think what the story will be, "Hopkins takes .... bike and wins!!! Is he greatest of all time????

Who knows

He seems to have all the talent in the world but I'm not sure if he has what it takes mentally. He pysches himself up so much I think he burns himself out. I think he's burnt out at Suzuki and is another reason why he's leaving.

As far as what he can do next year, who knows. The Kawasaki hasn't really been showcased by a front running rider but seems to be pretty good. Top three or championship contention? Maybe, I think he falls just shy but best of luck to him.

Well played sir, well played indeed.

Well, IMO Rossi, Pedrosa and Stoner are clearly ahead. And I would also rate Hayden above Hopkins.

So it's unlikely he'll be a top 3 in my view because although Rossi may retire soon leaving a spot open, others will come by (Lorenzo, Dovizioso) and since Dani and Casey are younger than him it's one spot up for grabs for many riders, I think it's unlikely.

But who knows, I wouldn't have thought Casey would be so good this year!

Once upon a time Hopper had a chance. When he was young he seemed highly adaptable and more able to overcome challenges.

Unfortunately, staying with Suzuki may have banished him into the realm of window dressing for sales. He is highly skilled and has a huge chip on his shoulder. I'm sure he was in talks with Yamaha too, and he probably is furious his dealings with them fell through (probably even more pissed at Burgess b/c he probably had a big say in who worked with him next).

Unfortunately, Hopper comes with a lot of emotional baggage (it finally spilled over this week at Laguna). I hope he gets some results with Kawasaki b/c riders teetering on the edge of greatness and underachievement (Melandri, Hayden, Hopkins, Pedrosa, Stoner) can't afford to be head-cases.

2003 was his worst season (17th in the championship) since then he's gone 16th, 14th, 10th, and he's sitting in 4th right now. His move to Kawasaki is unbefitting of someone with his experience and focus (unless Kawasaki are paying him millions) and it seems the market doesn't have much confidence in his stock anymore. I think his best chance is to overachieve at Kawasaki and then try to politic his way into a ride at Yamaha or Ducati.

Lady Luck has not shined upon him yet, but maybe this move will help instigate change.

Kawasaki are reportedly paying $5 million a year. He had his chance with Ducati. Twice. And he passed. Twice.
