Do you take / have you taken your kids to motogp?

Hi there,

Got a 3 year old, family holiday in Barcelona, and single ticket to Catalunya GP.

Also my first motogp after 5 years of obsessive viewing.

I am a little concerned that between the travel to and from, exchanging the voucher for ticket (WTF is that about?), the noise of the bikes, and being in a giant grandstand he might get freaked out and want to leave before the Moto2 warm up lap finishes.

I have bought ear defenders for him and he loves bikes on the road, but this is new territory and he is definately sensitive to loud noise.

Do any of you have any advice, previous experience etc?

thanks

This is a very personal call for you and your family. I have a three year old boy who is somewhat sensitive to noise and there is no way that I would take him to a motocycle even...yet. As much as I want to share my happiness with him in this he would be misserable. There is nothing there for him (My experience is only Laguna Seca). You don't see too many toddlers at the event. He likes to watch the bikes on TV but loses interest. I guess if I brought a dvd player and some headphones he would last a few hours but whats the point. I think I'll wait till he is around 5 or so.

Thanks for the quick reply! Had this question sitting on MCN for a week....

Yes, I am in a tough position as I think he is expecting to go, but does not know to expect long waits, loud noises, and a hell of alot of "happy" Spaniards!

I might take him to the qualifying instead of the race and if he hates it we can leave straight away without me feeling like I have wasted money; only problem is this will mean two days away from the rest of the family; but better then missing the race and feeling resentment towards the little munchkin..

I think I got over excited and decided he was coming before I thought things through.

Would be great to hear from anyone who has taken their 3/4 yr old to one though.....

Ive seen lots of families with their kids with all different age at assen during the TT. even babies! some choose to have their kids wear hearing protection, which is something I would defenatly have them wear too if I had a kid!

Hi I was recently in estoril & a young guy brought his young child in for the full duration each day.

TBH I thought he had pain on his hands but was mighty impressed, he brought coloring bools & pencils & a football & he kept his lad happy all day.

of course the lad had ear defenders on while any motorsport took place & inbetween they colored & had a kickabout behind the grandstand.

Last year I took my boys 15 & 16 at the time & one was into it the other not. So wish I'd taken them earlier.

I suppose what Im saying is do it & hopefully it will be fine. Good luck & I hope you have a good one

LOL. Johnny don't you need to revise your signature after leMans? Or are we not officially recognising Simoncelli's ride-through

Thanks. Have decided that unless my son begs me to take him I will go it alone and focus all my energy on enjoying my first live race! He can go to the beach with my wife and smaller son. win-win.

My two eldest kids have been going with me for several years now, they both love it. My youngest son is seven now so l plan on taking him to Silverstone just on the Friday. Definitely taking him ear defenders though. He loves watching it on the TV.

Oh and shhhsss.....he doesn't know yet.

So you take them to the practice sessions rather than raceday? Seems like the right call...

Well, my two eldest kids go on Saturday and obviously raceday, with the younger one it being his first time l think Friday would be best to see how he copes .......he should be fine though hopes

Thanks.

Have decided to take him to Brands Hatch BSB in August with my brother - should be much more doable. Look out for me in the background of the Catalunya race footage - can't miss me, I'll wear a Rossi cap to stand out!
