They do use TC, wheelie control, engine braking control, etc..., don't they?
But, according to the FIM technical regs, no ABS is mentioned.

(Maybe it is a dumb question
<
) But do they use any form of ABS?

Just curious,

Thanks

Laugh now, it won't be long until it's a standard feature.

AFAIK, the new 2009 Honda CBR1000RR (Fireblade) has an sophisticated ABS system, specifically designed for track use.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Nope, you're right and quite a few are actually going to race with ABS in some of the more competetive series in Europe. I don't know if they are used in WSBK and BSBK though.

In MotoGP they don't use ABS though, except if you ask BM. He'll gladly inform you they've used it for years, and that Rossi would be nothing without it.

Go back to what you know best...naked young asian boys.

BMW uses it, Hell the Honda Goldwing has it as an option...

It's been offered on the VFR800 for years now and the VFR has been Honda's sport bike test bed for the past decade or so.

#46, I hadn't read about the Fireblade having ABS, at least not here in the states, but I think I've read that the CBR600RR will at least have an ABS option. There must have been quite a bit of positive feedback amongst VFR riders as Honda seem quite confident in the feature.

AFAIK the honda cbr1000f had that terrible linked brake system (DCBS) as an option as far back as 1992.
ok, so its not ABS but i am sure it was offered as an option from 1995 till the end of its production.

so, pinky, get your facts straight before opening your gob...

As has been said, it is standard equipment on some BMW's and optional on others
The Yamaha FJR1300 in Oz has it
The Suzuki DL650 Weestrom has one model with it as standard
KTM990Adventure did have it as switchable on/off, not sure if it remains
VFR800 has had it as an option
Goldwings have it
The GTR1400 Kawasaki has an option (from memory)

And that is just those that immediately come to mind.

First time I've heard that. Just watched the 1st SBK round and Steven Martin mentioned earlier that he asked a few mechs if they'll be using ABS and they all said no, entire system's too heavy.

All of you crazy fuckers are wrong. That ABS is not good for the track, have you seen any of MCNs stuff, they rate the 600 last out of all the 600 because of the lame ABS. It regulates front and back brake all the time, you do not want that when your racing, it would make it harder to turn. Nobody in their right mind will be using it. Now using the wheels sensors for something else might be handy....

yup, we never said it was any good, we just pointed out pinky was wrong (as usual)

mcn, wouldn't wipe my arse with it

Thanks for the infos guys!
<

Well, actually it's just came to my mind, If production bikes already have ABS systems, why would top MotoGP bikes not do likewise?
And I guess Pedrosa might consider begging it for riding in the wet!
<

Ok, so now they don't ABS. But who knows,(like Austin said) guess it won't be long until Dorna brings it as a standard feature.
<

abs isnt as good as the braking a rider does in motogp...

at least the abs on street bikes these days arent as developed enough to come even close to what a rider can do... abs doesnt make a bike brake on the limit, it just pumps the brakes very fast, and i dont think riders riding on the limit would see that as an improvement...

but im no expert, but as far as i know, pulling the brakes yourself is more safe...
