It would be good to see him back fighting in the front pack.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (skidmark @ Jun 14 2007, 01:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>You gotta hand it to him, how does he keep his motivation?
He is a racer thru and thru, contrary to what some people think.Even though he, nor his team, have said anything,i wonder how much the seperated shoulder suffered late last year is affecting him this year.

I have to admit, he has got the fighting spirit and seems to have a good attitide towards his competitors. However, I think many people overrate his riding ability. He is great on tracks that he has a lot of experience on -- Laguna Seca. But, he has yet master many of the other tracks on the MotoGP circuit. this is where the riders who have come up through 125cc and 250cc ranks have an edge. They have years of experience on the same tracks. For that very reason, many of the other riders are not very fast on Laguna Seca, as they have had little prior experience on it. It is on the new tracks in which the cream rises to the top.
Many of the riders use videogames to learn the track. May be Nicky needs to spend more time doing that?

Good to see Nicky getting some development parts that are starting to work for him.

Is it me or is Hayden (and everyone else) getting parts after Pedrosa? I am willing to bet Dani has more changes than just exhaust pipes, and he seems to be the only Honda rider that is getting competitive so far.

I am getting the impression that Honda is still not backing Nicky like they should be despite the fact he won them the title last year.

So last year Nicky fans complained because they gave him too many parts for GPs and now they complain because he gets not enough parts??

As far as I know Nicky and Dani have both access to the new chassis, exhausts and rear suspension arm.

Actually Nicky has had more parts cause he's tried 2 different fairings, cause he needed a bigger one that Dani.

The one that was complaining about getting few parts (and late) was Melandri, but considering Elías is whooping his ..., he should talk less and ride faster!

Although by now Melandri is 4th and Elias 10th. Anyway, we do agree that Melandri “should talk less and ride faster!”

But perhaps the parts he has equal access to don't work well because they've been designed with Pedrosa in mind. The faring is a classic example.

From what I've read, Dani has been the first to use the exhaust and chassis. Hayden received the exhaust one round later and the chassis the Monday after Dani made the race debut with it. As far as whether it was available to Hayden before is anybody's guess.

A wild guess, but couldn’t it be that Pedrosa can manage a Podium even while testing new parts, so if they work then Hayden gets them… This may explain last years' when Hayden instead of getting great results while testing new part switched more into complaining about them. Maybe it’s about being a fast rider (Hayden even admitted he would prefer Melandri’s bike last year) or a “Developer” fast rider, as Honda sees Pedrosa now.

I think Haydens issues last year all centered around a development clutch that failed to work week in week out. Wasn't it also revealed that the test rider was having the same issue but wasn't giving the feedback for some reason? Did Dani ever have to use that clutch?

I believe that Honda and Michelin have shot themselves in the foot by giving vastly different equipment to their riders. There is no doubt that a winning bike still needs a winning rider and both companies are going to find it increasingly difficult to secure winning riders until they start giving equal equipment.

I am sure that Suzuki and Kawasaki would laugh at Michelin if they offered to supply tyres because they know that they would not get tyres that performed any where near Rossi or Pedrosa's.

Neither can win their respective world championships with 1 or 2 riders capabale of scoring podiums.

It’s a bit what I meant TP… Hayden was testing parts (Obviously test rider too) but come race day, if they weren’t totally approved then the other riders wouldn’t get them and Honda would take them back to developing. So maybe Pedrosa never got to use that clutch. Now 2007 they got the riders inverted, Pedrosa develops and still manages Podiums, so Hayden gets a bit what he asked for last year about Melandri’s bike, a well proven parts bike. Repeating myself: “A wild guess”.

it might be easier for a parts devloper to get good results when the parts he's using actually work properly though.

Totally agree, but parts have to be not only tested by test riders, but actually used in competition in order to really know if they are great improvement or just good enough for testing and for what a test rider thinks will be good. So the official teams obviously want a fast plus “Developer” rider, who is going to be getting all them knew parts first and manage Podiums at least, without meaning that others won’t get them sooner or later. So I still think this explains Honda’s, Hayden’s and Pedrosa’s place in the Team at last year and this one. Wild guess of mine.

PS. In most Official Teams too I guess.
