Sete Gibernau went under the knife on Monday at the Clínica Dexeus in his native Barcelona to help fix his broken left collarbone which was injured in a crash at Le Mans on Saturday.

The operation was undertaken without complications by Doctors Xavier Mir and Ignacio Ginebreda, who attached a supportive plate onto the bone. Gibernau is expected to be released from the hospital in the next 24 hours to continue his recovery at home.

Medical staff expect Gibernau to be able to recommence training in four weeks which means he will definitely miss the Gran Premio d’Italia Alice on 31st May and will be ‘touch and go’ for his home race in Barcelona on 14th June.

The team managers of the Grupo Francisco Hernando outfit, for whom Gibernau rides, are expected to make a decision about a possible replacement rider in the coming days.

FROM MOTOGP.com

so they might bring a replacement rider, could he be troy?

Doesn't he ride another brand?
I think Nieto is more likely.

Fonsi burnt a lot of bridges in the paddock when he rode in 250 I'm afraid to say. That said, the fact that his cousin runs the team may yet be significant. I don't think either Catalunya or Mugello clash with the WSB fixture, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this.

A Spanish rider like Checa seconded into the role is a real possibility Sacky, or maybe an Italian transplanted by Ducati?

Stick Mamola on the damn thing.

What about that CEV champion or something whatever his name was that Aspar wanted to get for the 3rd Kawa before they went bellyup?

Bayliss, not a chance in hell. He's retired all the way.

Sux for Sete, I had high hopes for him.

Regardless ofwho they get i dont think it will make a big difference. I t will just be some guy filling in the back of the paddock finishing at the back with the rest of the ducatis with the exception of Stoner's of course. As Big of a Bayliss fan as I am, I know the proto type wouldnt work out as good as the super bike did for him

Bayliss would be one of the most popu;ar guys they could put on the bike.
Think it will either be a young Spanish rider, given the chance of a life time, or will be Vittoriano Guareschi

Yes.

Checa is contracted to Ten Kate/Hannspree in the WSVK so can't see him getting released.

Isn't Nieto in for someone in WSBK though (just seem to recall him bein mentioned at Kyalami)?

i think hes in for max.neuk...

Bayliss seems out of the question, Fonsi Nieto is already on replacement duty, he should race at Miller Park on Neukirchner's Suzuki--if they give that Suzuki to someone else then Nieto could be free for Mugello... who knows.

The Nieto's run the team, so it could go to "The Fonsi". Id like to see Mladin on the Suzuki at Miller..

This is MUCH more likely than Nieto at Miller.
EDIT
just found this, GP one
Meanwhile, talk of a possible replacement for Sete Gibernau He has become the name of Fonsi Nieto, but this should be undertaken to Miller Park, in America, where for the Superbike replaces Max Neukirchner. The Suzuki has offered a seat Mat Mladina, which would free Fonsi to Mugello, but sources close set by the saying that it will not accept. Could take his place Blake Young, his team, but these are just rumors as of now.

Just when you think Mladin is coming around he does stupid stuff like this. Big fish, small pond, etc.

SO TRUE! ....... it!

This is infuriating. Mladin makes it so hard to like him. I've been really warming up to him this year, but this has set him back big time. This is a golden opportunity, race at home (so he doesn't have to fly to be away from his family), his brand of bike happens to be available, his old nemesis will be there, and there is no conflict with the AMA schedule. ...., can this be any more perfect?

.... MAT MLADIN!

I think the Bayliss-option could become real if he would have been a second faster on the previous test in Mugello. Bayliss will not risk his reputation on a bike which is not competetive enough.
I do not see Fonsi to take the ride for Mugello. He would blow his chance to get back to WSB if he turned down the Suzuki-ride. It is not worth to be a very possible backmarker for one MotoGP-event, when he could get back onto his old/new bike, might shine a little and get a chance for coming back to WSB. Hopkins is still injured, Laconi as well, Tamada etc.
In MotoGP what chance he got? Nothing.
Eventually he could be on the GP9 if he will not have given the opportunity to ride the zook in WSB.
